Andersen grabs top 10 finish

COLUMBUS — Columbiana junior Tyler Andersen stayed consistent on Saturday during the final round of the Div. III boys state golf tournament at Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course.

Andersen repeated his opening round score of 6-over-par 78 to finish tied for ninth with a total of 156. He earned second-team All-Ohio for his efforts.

Andersen was just eight shots behind the state champion Aiden Schumer of Columbus Wellington. Shumer rebounded from a 75 opening round to post a 73 on Saturday.

Brookfield’s Justin Atkinson came into Saturday with the lead after a 71 in the first round but he faded with a 78 to score a 149 total and finish tied for second with Howard East Knox’s Drew Salyers.

Brookfield’s Conner Stevens was fourth with a 150 total (77-73).

Berlin Hiland won the team title by 16 strokes over Columbus Wellington. Brookfield was fourth.

Div. II Boys

SUNBURY — The West Branch boys golf team finished 11th out of 12 teams on Saturday at the Div. II state golf tournament at Northstar Golf Club.

The Warriors shot 352 on Friday and 364 on Saturday for a total of 716 which was 140 strokes over par.

Nick Pidgeon led the Warriors with a 162 total (80-82). He was tied for 18th.

Aiden Wiesemann was tied for 45th with a 174 total (86-88). Brett Blickensderfer was 58th with a 184 total (92-92). J.D. Brain was 71st with a 210 total (98-112).

Gahanna Columbus Academy was firth with a 615 total (308-307).

Jamestown Greenview’s Mason Witt was the individual champion with a 150 total (72-78).

Div. II Girls

COLUMBUS — Minerva senior Jordan Van Meter’s quest for a third top 10 finish in the state Div. II girls golf tournament came up a bit short on Saturday at the Ohio State University Gray Course.

Van Meter followed up her first round score of 75 with a 78 on Saturday for a 153 total. She was tied for 11th with Hebron Lakewood’s Ella Wigal.

Van Meter, who owns four state tournament appearances, was seventh at state as a junior and eighth as a sophomore.

Kansas Lakota’s Kyleigh Dull dominated the field with a 3-under-par 137 over the two rounds. She shot 67 on Saturday to pull ahead of several golfers who shot under 70 on Friday.

Lima Central Catholic took team title honors with a 647 (318-329). Marlington was second with a 658 (318-340) while Cardinal Mooney was tied for eighth with a 718 (345-373).
