Heartland outlasts Dogs

EAST PALESTINE–Heartland Christian won a tough five-set match 24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14, 15-8 over East Palestine in volleyball action Wednesday.

The Lions improve to 12-3, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-5.

Makayla Osborn powered the Lions with 25 kills and 20 digs, while Lydia Wilson kept the offense flowing with 52 assists as well as 18 digs of her own.

Also for Heartland, Dara Arthurs had a strong all-around match with 12 points, 13 kills and 27 digs. Emma Hall added 11 points and 12 digs. Madi Matthews added 17 digs.

For East Palestine, McKenna Griffith 14 points and six aces. Malynn Bistarkey added eight kills and two digs, while Olivia Figley had nine kills and five blocks.

East Palestine won the JV match 25-11, 25-11. Jorden Webb led Heartland with five points, nine digs and three aces.

The Bulldogs host Lisbon Thursday, while the Lions are at Leetonia Saturday.

East Liverpool 3, Mooney 2

EAST LIVERPOOL — Emma Ludwig totaled 25 kills as East Liverpool outlasted Youngstown Mooney, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 12-25, 15-12, Wednesday.

Gabby George and Alexa Aldrich each had 19 assists and Addi Galeoti made 15 digs.

The Potters improve to 9-3 and will play at Indian Creek today.

In junior varsity action, East Liverpool rallied for an 11-25, 25-19, 25-21 win. Dalani Ice had 15 assists and Erica Ward 10 attacks and five kills for the Potters.

Mineral Ridge 3, Sebring 1

SEBRING — Mineral Ridge prevailed over Sebring, 25-9, 23-25, 25-8, 25-9, in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play Wednesday.

The Rams are 13-1 overall and 8-1 in the MVAC, while the Trojans are 3-8 and 0-7 MVAC.

Mineral Ridge got 18 kills from Katelyn Lesko, 28 assists from Danielle Aulet and 21 digs from Pryce Allen.

Sebring was led by Hannah Warner with six kills, Emma Whaley 28 digs and Olivia Hawk four blocks.

Southern frosh

SALINEVILLE — Southern Local topped Leetonia, 25-19, 25-15, in freshmen volleyball action Wednesday.

Jhenna Corbin had 14 points and Grace Brothers 12 points, five sets and four kills. Katie Calderon collected six assists and Kya McCulley had five points and four kills.

The Southern junior varsity and varsity squads will host Columbiana today.

Western Reserve 3, McDonald 0

BERLIN CENTER –The Western Reserve volleyball team improved to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 win over McDonald on Tuesday.
