Bulldogs beaten in 7th
NORTH JACKSON –Third-seeded East Palestine got to second-seeded McDonald a little two late.
East Palestine scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but McDonald responded with two runs in the bottom half for a 3-2 win in a Division IV district semifinal Wednesday at Jackson-Milton Elementary.
McDonald pitcher Bree Callow struck out 17 Bulldogs with no walks and allowed only two seventh-inning hits.
East Palestine’s Caitlin Mohney stayed right here with Bulldogs ace Jade McBride out due to illness. Mohney struck out three and walked none.
After McDonald scored on Megan Ward hit a triple and scored in the bottom of the sixth inning, East Palestine bounced right back.
In the top of the seventh, Delaney Early reached base on an error and advanced to second. Joclyn Fristik bunted for a base hit and Kenzee Johnston hit a bloop RBI double to tie the score. Harlie Detrick had a squeeze bunt to score the go-ahead run.
McDonald scored two of its own in the bottom of the seventh. Three of the first four batters hit doubles with Sierra Schrader hitting the last one to end the game.
The Blue Devils had five of their seven hits in the last two innings.
McDonald, the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference champion, will play fourth-seeded East Canton at 5 p.m. today for the district title.
East Palestine finishes the season with a 17-7 record.
