Comets are state bound

LISBON — The Columbiana County Comets Special Olympics basketball team is heading to Columbus this weekend to participate in the Division 4 state championship.

When they come back home, they will play the Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities staff on Wednesday at Lisbon High School’s Nace Gymnasium to highlight DD Awareness Month.

The junior vrsity game will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game. The event is free and open to the public.

Fristik on EOAC team

East Palestine’s Joclyn Fristik should have been included on the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference girls basketball second team in Friday’s paper.

ELO’s Harris was All-Ohio

EAST LIVERPOOL — Former East Liverpool High School cager Jim Harris, who later coached the Potters, died recently in Vancouver, Washington. Harris was an All-Ohio first-team choice in 1946 as East Liverpool reached the state semifinals, falling to Akron North.

Harris coached the Potters from 1959-64, compiling a 40-55 mark. He later served as the head basketball coach at Washington and Jefferson College from 1968-76, going 58-98, the sixth-highest win total in the men’s basketball program.
