Raiders dominate OAC awards

ALLIANCE — The University of Mount Union football team is piling up points and awards.

Four Mount Union players and two coaches earned special awards to headline the All-Ohio Athletic Conference teams selected by the conference’s 10 head coaches.

Junior quarterback D’Angelo Fulford and junior receiver Justin Hill earned the Bob Packard Offense Back of the Year and Ed Sherman Wide Receiver of the Year awards for the second straight season.

Fulford leads the nation in passing efficiency (208.4) as he threw 32 touchdowns with just one interception in the regular season. He sat out Mount Union’s 60-0 win over Denison in the playoff opener with an ankle injury.

Hill, who has three 100-yard receiving games season, has 40 catches for 738 yards (18.4) and 10 touchdowns.

Senior linebacker Danny Robinson and Louis Berry won the Gene Slaughter Linebacker of the Year Award and Lee Tressel Defensive Back of the Year Award, respectively.

Robinson leads the Raider defense with 61 tackles, including three sacks and one fumble recovery.

Berry has four interceptions and two fumble returns and has scored five defensive touchdowns for a defense that has scored 12 touchdowns on the season.

Vince Kehres is the OAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his six seasons. He has an 81-4 record, the most wins by a college football coach over the last six seasons.

Geoff Dartt is the OAC Assistant Coach of the Year. Dartt, Kehres’ brother-in-law, is in his second stint at Mount Union totaling six seasons as an assistant.

Mount Union had 11 first-team selections. Fulford, Hill, Robinson and Berry are joined on the first team by senior receiver Luke Herrington, sophomore running back Josh Petruccelli, junior offensive lineman Brendan Klaus, junior defensive lineman Andrew Roesch, junior linebacker Trey Williams, junior defensive back Gabe Brown and senior safety Austin White.

Top-ranked Mount Union (11-0) will host Centre, Ky. (10-1) in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs at noon Saturday.

All-OAC second-team picks for the Purple Raiders are senior receiver Jared Ruth, junior center Tavis Stika, junior offensive lineman Sean Sherman, senior defensive lineman Nick Brish, sophomore linebacker Mitch O’Hara, senior defensive back Trevor Cox and sophomore special teamer Malik Britt.

Junior defensive lineman Ethan McComb and senior punter Adam Snyder received honorable mention.
