Swords, Montgomery wear hats as Eagles top Bears

HANOVERTON — Loren Swords and Maddie Montgomery both had hat tricks in leading the United girls soccer team past Leetonia, 7-1, Wednesday.

Swords and Montgomery each scored three goals, while Morgan Briceland added another off a pass from Swords. Montgomery and Molly Ellyson added assists.

Christina Moats had two saves for the Eagles.

For Leetonia, Zoe Bruderly had 27 saves. Anna Buffone scored the lone goal. Kylie Tullis added an assist.

United will host Columbiana next Wednesday.

United 9, Leetonia 0

LEETONIA — The United boys soccer team defeated Leetonia 9-0 Wednesday night in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action.

Leading the Eagles was Jonathan Logan with five goals and one assist. Mitch Kelly and Zach Jewell contributed one goal and one assist each, while Dustin Hull and Anthony Phillips each scored a goal. Kade Blake also contributed an assist. United improves to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the EOAC and Leetonia drops to 2-3, 0-3. overall United hosts Lake Center Christian Saturday.

Salem 9, Canton South 0

CANTON — The Salem girls soccer team stayed unbeaten by blasting Canton South 9-0 Wednesday. The Quakers are now 5-0 overall.

Katelin Chilton and paige Bailey each scored two goals for the Quakers. Abi Hochadel, Annie Davidson, Corrin Erskine. Ellie Davidson and Lydia McKee rounded out the scoring.

Chilton added three assists, while Bailey had two and Meghan Griffin one.

Salem hosts Lordstown next Thursday.

West Branch 2, Minerva 1

MINERVA — Gillian Koneval scored a goal in each half to lift the West Branch girls over Minerva, 2-1, Wednesday night at Hines Stadium.

Sam Plocher made 10 saves in goal for the Warriors.

Ava Burman scored the Lions’ goal, while Sydney Ault made 16 saves.

West Branch improves to 3-4 overall, while Minerva moves to 3-1-1.

West Branch won junior varsity match, 2-0, as Maci McLean and Kirstin Smith scored goals.

Springfield tops Waterloo

ATWATER – Springfield scored nine goals in the first half and beat Waterloo, 11-1, Wednesday.

Kylee Kosek led the Tigers with four goals and two assists.

Sisters Cierra and Gianna Latronica each had two goals. Gianna also had an assist.

Haley LaMorticella, Anjelina Booksing and Sam Smith contributed goals. Anna Ohlin had four assists with Shantel Springfer and Katie Denmeade getting one apiece.

Laura Hood had the Vikings’ goal and Allyssa May made 26 saves.

Boardman 8, Crestview 1

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview girls soccer team dropped an 8-1 decision to Boardman on Tuesday.

Cara Higgins had three goals and four assists and Anna Deely two goals and one assist for the Spartans. Isabella Alvarico, Delaney Pollak and Julia Yauger each had one goal. Camille Holzschuh had one save.

Kassity Miller scored one goal for the Rebels. Donna Finch had five saves and Taylor Mellinger four.
