I would like to take this opportunity to say farewell and best wishes to all the wonderful parents and children who have attended my many storytimes and programs over the last 14 years at the Lepper Public Library.
Sadly, when I arrived at the library on Tuesday, Feb. 4, I was handed a short note by the director, Nancy Simpson, telling me my employment as children's librarian was immediately terminated.
No cause was given and I can only surmise that the director and library board members were unhappy with my request to work an additional day each week.
Or, perhaps, it was my insistence that the children's department should always have a staff member present for safety reasons. Or, maybe, I had stated once too often that the library needs a larger community/programming room, and computers in the children's department for kids to play games on.
These are all things I feel to be in the best interest of the children and the library.
In addition to the abrupt dismissal I was astonished to find the local police chief was on hand; a step taken, apparently, to intimidate me and cause me even more distress and humiliation. After 14 years of honest, hard work I feel this was an unwarranted and cruel thing to do.
In closing I wish to thank all of you who have offered me so many kind words and cards of appreciation over the years. Please remember me in your prayers.
