New taxes take effect

LISBON - When the Columbiana County Auditor's Office gets around this month to mailing out the property tax bills for the first half of the year, land owners in eight areas can expect their taxes to increase because of money issues they helped pass.

The areas - Beaver Local school district, Homeworth and North Georgetown fire districts, Rogers village, and Perry, Fairfield, Liverpool, Middleton and West townships - all had levies or bond issues on the ballot in 2012 that were passed by voters and result in tax increases this year.

East Liverpool voters also approved a new street levy in 2012, but due to a mistake with the ballot language, the tax will go into effect in 2014 instead of this year.
