LISBON - Daniel "Diesel Dan" Dixon, 50, of Middle Beaver Road, left this world at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at Parkside Health Care Center with his family by his side.
Dan was born Dec. 13, 1961 in Salem, a son of the late Harold B. Dixon and Marjorie (Wirks) Dixon and had lived his entire life in Elkrun Township.
Mr. Dixon was a graduate of Beaver Local High School and Columbiana County Career Center, where he excelled in his diesel mechanic class and won numerous honors at the regional level and also competed nationally.
Dan discovered diesel engines, the passion in his life, at an early age and became an expert in the field, as he furthered his education at Ohio Diesel Technical Institute in Cleveland. As a self-employed diesel mechanic, and as an owner/operator, he had the respect and admiration of a multitude of friends in the trucking field.
Dan was also a member of Elkton United Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother of Lisbon, he is survived by his brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Dixon and Phillip (Vicki) Dixon, both of Lisbon; sisters, Patricia Whitten (Bill) Stuba of Lisbon and Ilene R. McCoy of Boardman; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with Pastor Kathy Barton and Rev. Pamela Gable officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Because of Dan's interest in continuing education for himself and all others, the family suggest that memorial contributions be made at Farmers National Bank, where a scholarship is being created for New Castle School of Trades in Dan's memory to aid aspiring young diesel mechanics.
