On Oct. 10, the village of Salineville took a big step. An open house was held for the opening of a new health center in the Melhorn Clinic.
The village had been without the presence of a steady doctor since January 2010. The Community Action Agency (CAA) briefly established a medical presence in Salineville in late 2010 and early 2011, but was unable to stay due to lack of funding.
In June 2012, the CAA received word that the grant application to establish a full-time health center in Salineville would be funded. The CAA had 120 days from notice of funding to establish a fully operational health center at Melhorn.
The CAA provided a major renovation for the Melhorn Clinic to make it functional and appealing for the patients. High quality physician services are provided to the patients of this center by the CAA through a contract with River Valley Health Partners. The center uses state of the art electronic records technology to ensure high quality patient care.
This new health center is available to anyone who needs care, accepting most common health insurance plans, all Ohio Medicaid plans, and Medicare. For those patients who qualify, care is provided on a sliding fee scale so that uninsured patients or those with deductibles and co-pays may receive up to a 95 percent discount on all care. All ages of patients are accepted. There are no residency requirements to become a patient. In the near future this health center will include mental health services.
What an incredible benefit to Salineville and surrounding communities to be able to access medical and mental health care without traveling long distances.
I am disappointed that many of the dignitaries who were invited to the open house chose not to attend.
All of us should be proud of this beautiful facility that is serving our village with high quality patient care. I applaud the Community Action Agency and River Valley Health partners for their innovative affiliation, finding ways to better serve the healthcare needs of the community.
I invite everyone to try this health center. See how beautiful it is. Experience the wonderful care provided here. Take advantage of this new community resource.
