Lady Quakers too much for Southeast in district semifinals, will meet Canfield for title Thursday

BOARDMAN - Salem is playing its best volleyball at the right time.

The No. 5 seeded Lady Quakers knocked off No. 4 Southeast in four games Tuesday - 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17 - to advance to the Division II district final at Boardman High School Thursday against Canfield.

The Lady Quakers got off to a fast start building leads in each of the first two games. Southeast battled back from a 15-10 deficit to take a 17-15 lead in the second game before Salem came back to take a 2-0 advantage.

After backtracking slightly in the third game, Salem controlled the fourth to take the match.

Leading the Lady Quakers was Camrin Costal with 17 kills and three blocks.

Lindsey Foster added 11 kills and three blocks. Taylor Holenchick had seven kills, two blocks and an ace, and Carson Herron had 22 assists, two kills and one block.

For Southeast (21-4), Alina Woodard had 15 points, 15 kills, five aces and 11 digs.

Salem (15-9) takes on the Lady Cardinals for the second time this season 6 p.m. Thursday.

The No. 2 seeded Lady Cardinals won in straight sets over Liberty 25-17, 25-15, 26-24.

Rachel Rafoth had 13 digs and four aces. Sabrina Mangapora added 13 kills.

Canfield defeated Salem earlier this season during a tri-match 23-25, 25-21, 25-18.
