CANTON - Longtime East Liverpool resident and barber Joseph Edward "Eddie" Finney died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Laurels of Massillon. He was 89.
Born in Wellsville, May 4, 1923, he was a son of the late Joseph Thomas and Rose DeSarro Finney. He was a member of the Wellsville High School Class of 1941 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Following his service, he attended barber school in Cleveland and returned home to begin his career as a barber. For over 60 years, he operated his barber shop in East Liverpool until retiring at the age of 85.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
His wife, Marie C. Finney, preceded him in death on April 7, 1997. The couple married January 6, 1947. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Sisley and Gloria Sapanaro, as well as a brother, Earl "Gabby" Finney.
His daughter Rosemary Norton, and her husband Ralph, of Canton, survives, along with a sister, Sarah Ayoub, and her husband George, of Las Vegas, Nevada, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church.
Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
