Have a happy day and wonderful year

For most of us, today will be another day for family, friends, merriment and more good food. Beverages too, probably. Or perhaps you had too much of that last night into this morning. Too much food too, maybe.

Just like the Christmas and Thanksgiving seasons, New Year’s day provides ample opportunity for many to get together, enjoy each other’s company and perhaps do some reflecting — the whole auld lang syne thing. Please just remember to use social distancing and face masks and shields whenever possible.

Many people are off until Monday. Enjoy your down time. Many will be getting ready to watch the college football playoffs later today. There are thousands of Ohio State and Notre Dame fans across our parts.

The past year was eventful locally, nationally and internationally. Headlines by deadly COVID-19 and the explosive political season. Those events have been well-documented. Our own communities have seen some sad and bad times during the past year. All towns and cities do. That is an undeniable reality. Something could happen right here today. Tragedy doesn’t take holidays off.

Let’s remember all the good people in our towns. All parts of our region boast good places to work and good places to raise and educate children. Your personal lives were probably eventful too. Some good and some bad but eventful. More good than bad, we hope. Today as we gather to enjoy another holiday before heading off into 2021, consider any good fortunes that you have. Some are easy to take for granted but usually are the most important ones. Don’t ever understate that. For those losing a loved one this past year, savor the good memories of the good times. It does help.

To all of our readers, have a Happy New Year’s Day and the best of a brand new year. Thank you for making this newspaper part of your day. That is never lost on any of us working to put it together each and every day of the calendar year. May 2021 be kind and giving to you. And may you be kind and giving in return.
