Dr. Frank O’Block

SALEM — Dr. Frank (Francis) Robert John O’Block, 86, of Salem, formerly of Columbiana, died at 9:07 p.m. Thursday at Salem North Health Care Center.

Born July 4, 1932, in Greenford, he was the son of the late Frank E and Barbara (Mikicic) O’Block.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1952-1954, he was a psychologist in the Urbana-Champaign (Ill.) School District, Chicago State University, the Elim Christian School at Palos, Ill., the United Cerebral Palsy Center at Joilet, Ill., and with the Chicago State swim team at the Olympics. He retired in 1997 after 37 years of active work.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Korenich.

Survivors include a sister, Patricia Chizmar of Salem.

Calling hours with a prayer service will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. Friends also may call from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, with the mass to follow, officiated by Fr. Bob Edwards serving as celebrant. Military honors will be accorded. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
