— Officers performed a welfare check at 5:12 p.m. Nov. 5 in the 200 block of Main Street.
— Police responded at 8:24 a.m. Nov. 6 to the 200 block of Oak Street in reference to a male subject directing vulgarities to juveniles across the street. After having to deploy his taser, officers handcuffed John Cook who was acting violently and had EMS transfer him to Salem Regional Medical Center emergency room.
— Eric Eldon Richard Mackall, address unknown, was given a warning for insecure load at 12:16 p.m. Nov. 7 in the 4090 block of Columbia Street, after a tire fell out of the back of his pickup truck and struck the front bumper of a rental car.
— An attempted breaking and entering was reported at 5:01 pm. Saturday in the 1300 block of Beeson Mill Road of a trucking company, causing damage to the door and lockbox.
Salem
–Officers responded to the 400 block of South Lundy Avenue at 4:41 p.m. Monday for a reported suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that there was an occupied vehicle sitting in the parking lot, and the caller also advised that the owner of the vehicle may be watching their residence. The vehicle departed prior to the officers’ arrival, but it was found that the vehicle in question belonged to a person who lives in the area.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 4:17 p.m. Monday for a report of harassment. The caller advised that a man had been around her property and making comments towards her. The caller was encouraged to contact the police when the issues are occurring.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:22 p.m. Monday for a report of internet harassment. The woman advised that a threatening post had been made on Facebook and that they believed that the threats were directed towards her. Officers explained that the threats were not direct but that the situation would be documented.
–Officers spoke to a person by phone at 2:27 p.m. Monday regarding ownership of an animal in the city. Officers spoke with the caller and provided them with options for dealing with the situation.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 2:27 p.m. Monday for a speak with officer report. The caller had some questions regarding getting a car back that they had let a family member borrow. The caller advised them of their options.
–Officers responded to the area of the railroad crossing on Allen Drive at 1:25 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on an elderly man reported to be slumped over the steering wheel of their vehicle. Officers spoke with the man who advised that he had fallen asleep while watching trains.
–Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:58 a.m. Monday for a reported reckless operator. The caller advised that a vehicle was tailgating his vehicle while entering the city. Officers followed the vehicles and did not observe any violations.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 7 a.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that the upstairs tenant has been plugging an extension cord into his outlet and stealing his electricity. Officers spoke with the other tenant and advised them to cease their actions or face possible charges. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation.
–Officers on patrol in the area of East Pershing Street at 12:29 a.m. Monday observed a bicycle on the roadway with no lights. Officers advised them to put a light on the front and rear of the bicycle if they were going to ride the bicycle at night.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 6:26 p.m. Sunday for speak with officer report. The caller advised that someone was making threats on Facebook towards them. Officers determined that there was no threat on social media.
–Officers responded to the area of Short Avenue and Summit Street at 4:42 p.m. Sunday to check on a vehicle with expired plates. Officers had already placed a 48-hour warning ticket and spoke with several residents in the area, and they all advised that the car had been parked there for several months, and they didn’t know who owns the vehicle. Kaiser Towing was contacted to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Sixteenth Street at 1:49 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person speeding up and down the street. It was also alleged that a resident had asked the driver to slow down, and they had become threatening. The person left prior to officers’ arrival, and officers checked at an apartment complex where the person had reportedly been dropping people off but were unable to determine who those people were. An extra patrol will be conducted in the area.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:39 p.m. Sunday regarding a suspicious person that they had observed the day prior. They advised that they were dropping items off behind goodwill when a tan van pulled up behind them as they drove away, with the driver waving their hands seemingly trying to get their attention while a male passenger exited the vehicle and started to approach theirs. They further advised that they thought they might have forgot something so stopped and spoke to them out of their window, and the man was yelling at them to “call Shelby” and began running towards their vehicle when they advised that they did not know anyone by that name, prompting them to accelerate, eventually losing the vehicle, and return to their own town as they did not know where the police department was at the time. Officers advised they would check local businesses for possible security camera footage.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of Salem Parkway at 10:43 a.m. Sunday for a report of theft. The caller advised the individuals were observed entering the business’ parking lot during the AM hours and parked next to a company truck, and a person exited a vehicle and accessed the storage area of the truck and opened the trunk of the vehicle. Five toolboxes were found to be missing from the same side of the truck that the person had been observed at. The approximate value of the stolen toolboxes and contents is $1,500.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of Columbia Street at 2:56 a.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that the vehicle repeatedly drove around their house. Officers were able to locate the vehicle, but it was unoccupied. The vehicle was registered to a person living in the area.
–Officers responded to the 2400 block of Lexington Avenue at 6:05 p.m. Saturday for a reported fire. Officers located a large bonfire in the backyard of the residence. Officers and the fire department advised them of the proper size for fire in the city. The fire was extinguished.
–Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Snyder Road at 5:05 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator. Officers checked the area but did not locate the vehicle.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of North Cunningham Road at 9:33 a.m. Saturday for a report of drug paraphernalia. The caller found the paraphernalia while cleaning one of the rooms. Officers recovered and properly disposed of the item.
–Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:32 a.m. Saturday for a reported noise complaint. The caller advised that their neighbor had been playing music for hours. Officers spoke with the neighbor who denied playing any music and said they just had their TV on. Officers requested that they keep the volume lower.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 3:10 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that a person was outside pounding on his front door. Officers learned that the person had an argument with the woman inside and just wanted to get a charger. Officers were able to get a charger for them and they left without issue.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of South Howard Avenue at 12:58 a.m. Saturday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised that the juveniles had driven by and yelled out their window. Officers advised them to call back if it happened again and that officers would attempt to locate them.
–Officers on patrol in the 500 block of Granite Avenue at 12:11 a.m. Saturday observed lights on at a condemned residence that should be vacant. Officers checked the residence and were unable to locate anyone inside.
–Officers on patrol in the 200 block of North Howard Avenue at 11:54 p.m. Friday observed the vehicle of a person alleged to be living inside a storage unit. Officers spoke with the person who denied the allegation. However, it appeared that they were living inside the unit, and the matter will be forwarded to the housing department.
–Officers on patrol in the area of North Ellsworth Avenue at 9:54 p.m. Friday observed a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the driver, Tony Hughes, 53, Salem, was highly intoxicated and took him into custody and transported him to the police department. Hughes blew a .312 BAC and was cited for OVI.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 7:49 p.m. Friday for a reported sexual assault. However, it was learned that the offense actually occurred outside the city limits in the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction. The Sheriff’s Office was contacted to respond and make a report.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of Continental Drive at 5:40 p.m. Friday for a report of theft. The caller advised that while they were in the hospital an unknown person went into their room and took a metal lock box. Officers spoke with the staff who advised that they were doing an internal investigation. The matter is under investigation.
–Officers responded to the area of Summit Street at 5:23 p.m. Friday for a reported parking complaint. Officers located a vehicle parked on the street with expired plates and placed a 48-hour warning tag on the vehicle.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 3:15 p.m. Friday for a three-vehicle accident with injuries. A vehicle driven westbound by Alex Calel, 25, Salem, failed to stop and struck the rear of a vehicle driven by William Sherwood, 79, Salem, which caused it to strike a vehicle driven by Anitra Teli, 49, Alliance. Calel then fled the scene on foot with a small child prior to the arrival of officers. He later returned and was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, and was taken into custody charged with OVI, leaving the scene of an accident, endangering children, driving under suspension, and assured clear distance ahead. Sherwood and her passenger were transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment.
–Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 1:43 p.m. Friday for a report of a man who was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle was turning into a parking lot and did not see the man, and both parties involved and a witness advised that the man did not get hit by the vehicle but did have an injury from falling. The fire department and EMT responded and the man refused medical treatment.
