Sheriff Reports

— Deputies were dispatched at 4:38 p.m. July 3 to Steubenville Pike Road, Wayne Township for a trespass complaint. When deputies arrived, the person had left. The caller advised the man came to her property after she told him he was trespassed. A camera will be reviewed.

— Trespassing was reported at 7:15 p.m. July 1 at the old Frola Motel, state Route 45, Lisbon. A warrant was issued for criminal trespass out of county Municipal Court for the person from Barberton.

— A vehicle was reported stolen at 8:33 p.m. June 30 in Fife Coal Road, Yellow Creek Township.

Salem

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fifth Street at 6:45 a.m. Monday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that they had been confronted by a person known to them while walking in the area who was allegedly upset that they had not wished him a happy birthday and knocked her coffee from her hand. Office provided the woman with the options for dealing with the situation

–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 9:50 p.m. Monday to check for a person with a warrant. Officers were unable to locate them.

–Officers responded to the area of West State Street and Georgetown Road at 7:39 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with the female half who advised that she and her husband had gotten into an argument, and she got out of the vehicle with her kids and were walking to her mother’s residence. The male half was located in a vehicle nearby and nothing physical was reported.

–Officers responded to the 1900 block of Oak Street at 4:10 p.m. Sunday for a report of trespassing. The caller advised they had recently had their property surveyed and the other party keeps coming onto their property and it was an ongoing issue. Officers attempted to contact the other party, but nobody was home. More information will be obtained and sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 3:56 p.m. Sunday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with and alleged sex offense. Two people were taken into custody and were transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers responded to a business in the 2400 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:52 a.m. Sunday for a reported explosion. Officers spoke with the manager of the business who advised that they had heard a loud explosion and lost power. As a precaution the fire department responded and determined that a fuse had blown on a telephone pole. Ohio Edison was notified.

–Officers spoke to a person at the police department regarding a civil matter at 6:31 a.m. Sunday. Officers advised them of their options.

–Officers responded to the area of South Union Avenue and East State Street at 1:26 a.m. Sunday for a public assistance call. The person advised they had nowhere to go and their phone was about to die. Officers gave the man and a courtesy transport to the police department to charge his phone. Officers and dispatchers paid for a taxi for the person to get where he was going.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of Ohio Avenue at 12:06 a.m. Sunday for a reported intoxicated person. The caller advised that a person fell and was laying in the yard across the street from them. When they arrived, officers observed the unconscious person in the yard and woke him up. He called his girlfriend for a ride home.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 10:15 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that he had not heard from the person in 48 hours. Officers spoke with a resident who advised the person in question was not there but was OK.

–Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 8:45 p.m. Saturday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that the person was asking people for drugs. Officers spoke with the person who advised he was just joking around, and he was advised to stop.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of Aetna Street at 7:46 p.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that they got into an argument on their way home. Nothing physical was reported. They were advised to stay away from each other for the evening.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 4:51 p.m. Saturday for a reported property issue. The caller advised that property had been left inside a friend’s house, but due to a falling out the friend was refusing to answer the door. Officers spoke with the person, and the caller obtained the property and was sent on his way.

–Officers responded to the area of East State Street at 3:35 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised that they had gotten into a verbal altercation with her boyfriend, who left the area. A short time later the man returned, and both parties were advised by officers to be civil in the car riad and to keep separated while home.

–Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 2:33 p.m. Saturday for a reported distraught person. When officers arrived, the man was extremely aggressive and delusional, and the fire department and EMT responded, and the man was pink slipped and transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital Boardman.

–Officers spoke with a person at the police department about a child custody dispute at 11:40 a.m. Saturday. The man advised that he and his ex were supposed to exchange children but due to a misunderstanding the other party had never brought the children. He also advised that the other half was stating he forfeited the children, and he wanted a report on file for his attorney.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of East Fourth Street at 9:36 a.m. Saturday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller claimed that a man who lives across the street intentionally rear-ended his vehicle while parking on the street. Officers observed the two vehicles to be touching but the caller said there was no damage and that they just wanted officers to speak with the man. When officers spoke with the man advising him that he had backed into the caller’s vehicle he became agitated and made comments about the neighbor which could be perceived as threatening and officers advised him that he could be arrested if he threatened or assaulted anyone. Officers advised the caller that if the man caused any issues to call law enforcement immediately.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of Buckeye Avenue at 2:54 a.m. Saturday for a report of possible shots fired. The caller advised that someone was outside his window pointing a rifle at his residence and shot one of his windows out. Officers checked the area with no signs of anyone around, nor signs of shots being fired or damage to his residence. Due to the person’s extreme level of intoxication and other indicators suggesting that he had ingested narcotics, officers believed him to be hallucinating. The fire department and EMT responded but the caller entered his home and refused to be transported to the hospital.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Mullins Street at 11:56 p.m. Friday for a reported domestic dispute. When officers arrived, they observed a person attempting to leave the residence in a vehicle and officers advised them that they were not free to leave and they parked the vehicle. Once the initial call was handled, officers were made aware that the person Dylan Metzgar, Salem, had been drinking and field sobriety testing showed impairment. Metzgar was taken into custody and transported to the police department and cited with OVI. Metzgar was released to a sober driver.

–Officers responded to several locations throughout the city Friday evening for reported fireworks complaints.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of Cedar Street at 9:40 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. The caller advised that they were unable to contact the mother of his son, whom he was staying with. Officers attempted contact at the residence, but nobody answered the door and were advised the juvenile was being babysat by his 14-year-old sister who officers could see were OK through the window but would not answer the door. Officers were eventually able to speak with the juveniles and learned that the mother was out of the residence consuming alcohol, and a short time later the mother Kari Stahl, 33, Salem, drove up to the residence heavily intoxicated and unable to stand. Stahl was taken into custody for OVI and transported to the police department for processing. Due to their her behavior at the department and making threats towards a neighbor, Stahl was transported to the Columbiana County Jail, and the juveniles were placed into the care of family and a family friend.

–Officers responded to the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 9:46 p.m. Friday for a reported suicidal woman. Officers spoke with the woman in question who was transported to the hospital.

–Officers responded to the 1000 block of Buckeye Avenue at 8:38 p.m. Friday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that there were three unknown people in his home pounding on the walls and damaging property that he wanted removed. Officers checked the interior of the residence, finding nobody other than the caller, and due to indications that the person may have ingested narcotics and was heavily intoxicated, officers feared he might be hallucinating. The fire department and EMT were requested to respond, but the caller refused medical attention.

–Officers responded to the area of South Union Avenue and East State Street at 8:04 p.m. Friday to assist Goshen Township officers with a man in their custody that requested medical attention. The fire department and EMT responded. The man signed a refusal and was transported by Goshen Township Officers.

–Officers responded to the area of Centennial Park and Maple Street at 5:52 p.m. Friday for a reported intoxicated person. Officers offered the person, Sarah Himes, 48, Salem, a ride home due to her being heavily intoxicated and unable to stand without stumbling. She refused transport and was taken into custody after which she slipped handcuffs off inside the cruiser. Officers were then forced to take Himes out of the cruiser, place handcuffs on her again and place her back into the vehicle. She refused to enter the cruiser willingly and had to be forced inside and was transported directly to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fifth Street at 2:08 p.m. Friday for a report of criminal mischief. The caller advised that someone had thrown an unknown liquid on the side of their house and on the screen door. Officers spoke with the person the caller said might be responsible. The person denied any knowledge of the incident.

–Officers spoke with a person by phone at 12:09 p.m. Friday who advised that their son was missing and had checked out of the hospital Wednesday evening and hadn’t been heard from since. Officers checked with hospital staff who advised that the man had been transported to another hospital. The staff member called and confirmed that the man was still at the other hospital and officers advised the caller of the same.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of North Broadway Avenue at 1:05 a.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that they thought an unknown person was in the laundry room of the apartments. Officers checked the laundry room and found nobody there.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of West State Street at 7:12 p.m. Thursday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that three men looked as if they were attempting to break into an abandoned building. Officers found nobody around the building nor any signs of damage or forced entry.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 5:17 p.m. Thursday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers found that the involved parties were a couple who lived together and had been in verbal dispute which turned physical. Officers observed bloody scratches and red marks on the male half which he attributed to the female half Brittany Dermotta, 38, Salem. Officers took Dermotta into custody charged with domestic violence and transported her to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a reported person to be removed. Officers spoke with the people in question and advised them to leave the property. They left without issue.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 3:24 p.m. Thursday for a report of telecommunications harassment. Officers spoke with the mother and the juvenile in question by phone, advising them of the complaint and to cease their actions. She advised that she understood, and it would not happen again.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 9:03 a.m. Thursday for a report of an ongoing telecommunications harassment. The caller asked what their options for dealing with the issue were and was concerned that the person is supposed to get his driver’s license in the mail but that it is going to his old apartment at the same complex. Officers advised her to have the apartment manager contact him when the license comes.

–Officers responded to the area of Rose Avenue and East Third Street at 8:27 a.m. Thursday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the man, who advised he had fallen asleep in his vehicle and would go inside, and that he was sorry for the issue. Nothing else was needed.

–Officers on patrol in the area of South Union Avenue and Mound Street at 2:38 a.m. Tuesday observed a vehicle commit multiple traffic offences and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Officers spoke with the occupants and K-9 Fero was deployed and indicated the presence of narcotics odor coming from the vehicle during the stop. Officers conducted a probable cause search, and no contraband was located, but an Ohio Direct Card and ID card for someone who was not in the vehicle were located. Officers issued a written warning for the violations.

–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Ninth Street at 7:31 p.m. Monday to speak with a resident regarding an ongoing issue. Officers advised them of their options and to call back if any further assistance was needed.

–Officers spoke to a person in the 400 block of East Pershing Street at 4:20 p.m. Monday for a reported theft. The caller advised that while their delivery truck was parked to unload in the 500 block of East Pershing Street an unknown person entered the vehicle and took an item out. Officers will attempt to get security footage from one of the businesses which shows the person entering the vehicle and from the truck itself.

–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Third Street at 3:55 p.m. Monday for a report of a person who had trespassed in the building. Officers found that the person in question was not there when they arrived.

–Officers spoke to a person by phone at 3:31 p.m. Monday about a neighbor coming onto one of their properties without permission. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation, and the caller responded to the state to sign a criminal trespass notice on the person in question.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 2:05 p.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. While enroute officers located one of the involved parties who advised that she and the other person had exchanged words as she walked by. While officers were speaking with the woman other officers spoke with the other party who advised the same. Officers advised both of their options.
