County Sheriff

— A noise was reported at 10:26 p.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of Hawkins Road, Unity Township, but the responding deputy was unable to locate the source.

— A woman on Spillway Road, Hanover Township, reported at 10:15 p.m. Saturday that someone was outside hitting her residence. No one was found.

— Fireworks were reported going off at 10:02 p.m. Saturday in the 33000 block of Sunrise Drive, Hanover Township, but were not found.

— Independent Taxi of Youngstown contacted police at 6:22 p.m. Saturday to request a welfare check on a Lisbon man, state Route 164, Center Township, who was very intoxicated when they dropped him off at his residence. Deputies spoke with the man who was sitting on his front porch drinking a beer. He said he was fine and a family member sitting with him also said he was fine.

— A domestic was reported at 1:32 a.m. Saturday on Summit Drive, Salineville. Both parties separated for the night with no signs of physical violence occurring.

— Minerva Local School requested a welfare check on a student at 10:39 p.m. Friday at Quaker Church Road, West Township. A deputy spoke with the student and his mother and the student was fine. She said she will call the principal.

— A deputy was dispatched at 8:13 p.m. Friday to North Shore Drive, Knox Township, for a 911 text to dispatch. The homeowner said everything was fine.

— A woman on Homeworth Road, Knox Township, reported at 7:09 p.m. Friday that four males came to her residence selling sweepers. She let them into her residence and when her son arrived home, they left. She wanted a report on file.

– A Yorktown, Va., resident reported at 5:38 p.m. Friday that he has a residence for sale on Brushville Road, Unity Township, and the realtor told him the back door window was busted, the residence was entered and nothing was stolen at this time.

— Deputies were dispatched at 12:54 p.m. Friday to Canal Street, East Rochester, for an alleged female being held against her will, but learned she left and there had been an issue with her not taking her medication. She called while deputies were there and was having a panic attack at Dollar General on U.S. Route 30. Deputies responded with the male half and upon arrival, it was determined there had only been an argument and she was missing some of her medication the night before. They were both taken back to the residence with nothing further necessary.

— A resident on Meadow Wood Drive, Butler Township, reported at 12:03 p.m. Friday that one of her coworkers had threatened to hit her to another coworker via text message. She was told she could request a protection order if she wished.

— A caller at 9:36 a.m. Friday reported his company’s wood splitter was taken from the lot on state Route 14, Unity Township, earlier that night.

— The Akron Police Department called at 6:18 p.m. Thursday about a woman calling and threatening to harm herself, possibly on Bell Road, Elkrun Township, per cell phone ping. Deputies checked Bell Road, Hatcher Road and then made contact with the person on Hawkins Road and they said they were fine and enrolled in counseling.

— A deputy was dispatched at 11:19 a.m. Thursday to a state Route 172, West Township, residence for a welfare check on children. No contact could be made, but then the mother was called and said she only has one child and he resides with his father in Sebring. Dispatch was told to contact Sebring Police.

— Steven D. Stoffer, 42, state Route 14, Unity Township, was arrested for domestic violence after deputies were called at 2:22 a.m. Sept. 11 to the state Route 14 property for a domestic incident. A woman said he had been arguing with her all day and he allegedly grabbed her around her pregnant belly and squeezed hard to the point she thought her water broke. He allegedly grabbed her around the neck, slapped her in the face and poked her in the forehead multiple times. He already appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court for the felony charge and has a preliminary hearing scheduled next month.

— A domestic was reported at 12:59 a.m. Sept. 11 on Cherry Street, Washingtonville, where the victim was reportedly assaulted by the property owner and live-in partner. Neither party wanted to press charges and medical attention was refused.

— A domestic was reported at 2:59 p.m. Sept. 10 on Georgetown Road, Butler Township, where a juvenile son had struck his father in the mouth with a closed fist. The father did not want to press charges, but wanted his son to go to Akron Children’s Hospital for a mental evaluation. He signed a refusal and the son agreed to go to the hospital with the grandmother.

— Deputies were called at 8:29 a.m. Sept. 9 to Sell Road regarding property damage to a farmer’s soy bean field. Reportedly a man wanted on a warrant by the sheriffs office was involved and was seen on a trail camera driving a blue Jeep in the soy bean field. Dakota Baker was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. The property owner did not want to press charges for the damage.

— A deputy was dispatched at 8:14 a.m. Sept. 7 to Southern Street, Negley, for a vehicle in a driveway with a broken window and door. It was determined the vehicle was from a previous incident, but a deputy discovered the front door missing from the home and multiple pieces of furniture missing from inside.

— A domestic was reported at 3:37 p.m. Sept. 4 on Pine Street, Leetonia, where a live-in partner allegedly threw a bat at the rear window of a vehicle, shattering the window. Both parties refused medical attention and signed a refusal to prosecute.

— ATVs were reported on the road traveling recklessly on Latta Road, Unity Township, at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 3 with a large party in a field. The people involved denied any recklessness or having a field party.

— A male was reported causing a disturbance after he was intoxicated at 12:36 a.m. Sept. 2 on state Route 164, Center Township. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing a mental health crisis.

Lisbon

— Nicole Baringer, 34, West Washington Street, was issued a summons for theft for Columbiana County Municipal Court after police were called at 8:19 p.m. Sept. 13 to Dollar General, Rose Drive, for a theft allegedly involving $48.

— Officers responded to Beaver Street in front of the old Numbers Brewing at 5:31 p.m. Sept. 13 for a capped needle on the sidewalk. Officers located the needle and several others in the surrounding grass which were all capped and appeared to be unused. Officers collected the needles to dispose of them properly.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 8:32 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unknown issue. When officers arrived, the caller advised that a woman he knew had showed up and started threatening him, allegedly stemming from him owing the woman money. The woman had already left the area prior to officers’ arrival. Officers will contact the woman to advise her to leave the caller alone.

— Officers responded to the area of Diagonal Road and South Duck Creek Road at 6:43 p.m. Sunday to assist Goshen Township officers with a traffic stop where a K-9 was requested. K-9 Argo was deployed and did indicate to the presence of a narcotics odor. A search of the vehicle located suspected contraband and the driver was taken into custody by Goshen Township.

— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Sharp Street at 6:05 p.m. Sunday for a report of a fight possibly occurring. The homeowner advised that two people had been staying with them in their home for six months and were causing problems, and they wanted them removed. They also advised that the people were calling the homeowners witches and accusing them of performing witchcraft because they put up Halloween decorations. Ultimately an agreement was made concerning rent money that was paid, and the people elected to move out of the residence and get a hotel.

— Officers responded to the 2100 block of East State Street at 5:38 p.m. Sunday for a report of harassment. The caller advised that there has been an ongoing issue with a woman attempting to get them fired from their job stemming from an altercation the caller and the woman’s sons had at school. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Granite Avenue at 4:24 p.m. Sunday for barking dog complaint. Officers could hear the dogs when they arrived and attempted to speak with the owners, but nobody was at the residence.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Perry Street at 2:24 p.m. Sunday for a report of a protection order violation. The caller advised her ex-husband, whose name was not listed, sent her a telecommunication message in direct violation of their protection order. Charges will be filed.

— Officers on patrol in the 800 block of Southeast Boulevard at 2:07 p.m. Sunday took a report of a man riding a dirt bike on city property. Officers advised the man he was on private property and needed to leave, which he did without incident.
