— Officers responded to the 1600 block of East State Street at 7:23 p.m. Thursday for a vehicle complaint. The caller advised that a vehicle has been left in his parking lot for over a day and the owner has not returned to recover it. Officers attempted to make contact with the owner of the vehicle but were unsuccessful.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Cleveland Street at 6:13 p.m. Thursday for a report of dog at large. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the dog.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of West State Street at 6:08 p.m. Thursday for a juvenile complaint. Officers advised the juvenile to listen and respect their parents.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of East Sixth Street at 5:54 p.m. Thursday for a 911 hang-up call. When officers arrived, they found the matter to be a verbal dispute, where family members had responded due to concern over a message. Officers read the message which was not self-threatening.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Third Street at 4:14 p.m. Thursday for a reported dog at large that had attacked another dog, injuring it. At the time of the report no proof of license, nor vaccinations were provided by the owner of the dog at large. The matter was reported to the health district and is under investigation for charges.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 3:23 p.m. Thursday about a situation concerning a vehicle she had allowed a person known to her to use. The vehicle was located in the 100 block of Hawley Avenue at 3:23 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle was towed from the residence at the owner’s request by Sinsley Towing.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of South Union Avenue at 2:01 p.m. Thursday for a report of an animal left in a house after the tenants moved. No animals were located inside the residence.
— Officers spoke with someone at Centennial Park matching the description of an involved party in an incident being investigated from the prior day at 1:50 p.m. Thursday. The man provided a different name of the man in question, and officers initially left the area. However, further investigation found they were the involved party, and he had provided officers with a false name. Officers spoke with the man again in the 1900 block of East Pershing Street a short time later, and he admitted he had lied about his name. Officers took the man, Corey Cantwell, 24, Salem, into custody for obstructing official business and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail. Possible further charges are pending in regard to the original investigation.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 11:48 a.m. Thursday for a report of theft. The caller advised that an unknown person had taken $334 out of his bank account without his knowledge or permission. Officers advised the caller of his options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 11:29 a.m. Thursday for a report of reckless operation. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
— Officers responded to a business in the 2300 block of East State Street at 11:21 a.m. Thursday for a report of shop lifting. The caller advised an unknown person had left the store with several items without paying. The caller gave a description, and the area was checked but officers were unable to locate the person in question.
— Officers responded with the fire department to the 1200 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 11:15 a.m. Thursday for a report of lines down. Officers determined the lines in question were not power lines.
— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 11:05 a.m. Thursday for a report of stolen property. The caller explained the incident and that a report had been filed with the sheriff’s office as the original incident happened outside the city. Officers advised the caller that he should follow up with the sheriff’s office.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 8:16 p.m. Saturday after a security company advised the resident reported there were robbers in the residence. Officers spoke with the resident and found the incident to be a misunderstanding.
— An officer responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:53 p.m. Saturday where a property manager reported a juvenile had punched a down spouting, causing damage. After officers spoke with the juvenile’s family and determined they would pay for the damages, the property manager agreed not to pursue charges.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:07 p.m. Saturday where a resident reported a teenage family member had become upset and walked off. The resident said she just wanted officers aware of the incident.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East 10th Street at 3:49 p.m. Saturday in reference to yelling coming from a home in the area. Officers spoke with a resident who said an unknown man was asking questions about the owner of the residence and the conversation got heated, but the man left before officers arrived.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Continental Drive at 2:18 p.m. Saturday where a resident reported someone overnight had entered his room and took money from his wallet. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at the request of the fire department at 2 p.m. Saturday in reference to an open burning complaint. Fire department personnel reported it was the second time that day they had responded to the home for open burning. Fire department personnel once again advised the homeowners of what can and cannot be burned and the homeowners ultimately extinguished the fire.
— Officers responded to a 2800 block East State Street business at 11:56 a.m. Saturday in reference to an individual who failed to scan $109.56 worth of merchandise at the self-checkout. The individual, who was not identified in the report, was released due to prior history of theft with the understanding that charges would be filed and summons issued.
— Officers responded to Centennial Park at 12:34 a.m. Saturday in reference to a suspicious activity involving people with bright lights. Officers found everything to be okay and the people in question were advised of the park hours.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Chestnut Street in Leetonia at 11:32 p.m. Friday to assist Leetonia police on a traffic stop in which the passenger fled on foot. Officers remained on scene until everything was okay and they were no longer needed.
— An East Eighth Street resident reported at 7:44 p.m. Friday his elderly wife with a medical condition had wandered off from home and he was unable to find. Officers searched the area and located the wife, finding her to be fine. She was transported home by the complainant.
— Joshua S. Burke, 38, Salem Warren Road, North Jackson, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County following a traffic stop in the 400 block of South Lundy Avenue at 7:14 p.m. Friday in which he was a passenger.
— An officer responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 6:13 p.m. Friday where a resident reported a neighbor with whom he has had previous issues had come over to his home and was kicking his door. The officer spoke with the neighbor and advised her to stay on her own property.
— A 1600 block Shady Lane resident reported at 6:07 p.m. Friday a female driver had pulled into her driveway and took pictures of her residence.
— Police responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 4:55 p.m. Friday where an individual reported being invited to a friend’s residence when another resident at the apartment complex became irate, pushing him and ripping his shirt. The complainant did not want to pursue assault charges, but wanted the incident documented.
— Cory M. Hauter, 27, Franklin Avenue, Salem, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County after officers responded to his home at 4:28 p.m. Friday in reference to the warrant.
— Police responded to the 1800 block of Meadow Lane at 3:10 p.m. Friday where a resident reported someone had hacked her juvenile daughter’s Snapchat account then contacted her daughter demanding money or her private photos would be shared with the public. Police advised her to delete the account and contact Snapchat to verify its deletion.
— Officers responded to Court Drive at 2:59 p.m. Friday where a Park Avenue resident reported his juvenile daughter had run away from him while they were in Centennial Park. Officers located the juvenile at Sebo Stadium and returned her to her father.
— Police responded to the 400 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 2:01 p.m. Friday where a resident reported her ex-boyfriend had threatened to burn her house down during an argument they had by phone. The resident ultimately asked that the matter be documented but not pursued at this time.
— An officer responded to the 100 block of South Madison Avenue at 1:25 p.m. Friday where a resident reported a white Kia vehicle drives by the residence at all hours of the day and night with music so loud it rattles the walls and windows of his home. The officer checked the area but was unable to find the vehicle in question.
— An officer responded to the 400 block of West Pershing Street at 12:38 p.m. Friday where a resident reported he and his family were in the process of moving out of their apartment, but the landlord had shut off the water early despite a previous agreement. The resident has a companion animal and wanted the incident documented.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Fourth Street at 12:21 p.m. Friday in reference to people yelling and found a verbal dispute between a man and woman, who said nothing physical had occurred and everything was fine.
— Police responded to the 200 block of West State Street at 8:08 a.m. Friday in reference to a vehicle that had been parked in a lot since the previous night. Officers found a man sleeping inside the vehicle, woke him up and told him to move along.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 5:06 a.m. Friday to assist the fire department on a medical call. The patient was ultimately transported by ambulance to the hospital.
— An officer responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday where a resident reported having behavioral issue with his juvenile son. The officer explained the option of pursuing unruly charges against the juvenile.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 1:33 p.m. Tuesday in reference to domestic dispute. All people involved were told to stay away from each and explained the eviction process.
— Officers responded with the fire department to the 300 block of West Ninth Street at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in reference to lines down and a tree limb on a vehicle. Officers provided traffic control until Ohio Edison arrived.
— Somer F. Madden, 22, Kensington, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of East Third Street at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday.
— An officer responded to the 1800 block of Fairview Court at 6:41 a.m. Tuesday where a resident reported he believed someone was attempting to steal his electricity and possibly had an extension cord running in his back yard. Officers checked around the building but did not find an extension cord.
— Officers responded to the are of the bypass and West State Street at 1:32 a.m. Tuesday to assist Perry Township police with a traffic stop in which passengers were being uncooperative. Perry Township police ultimately arrested the two passengers and the driver.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 10:11 p.m. Monday in reference to someone throwing a purse out of a vehicle then driving off. Officers checked the purse and found it full of cockroaches.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West 16th Street at 9:05 p.m. Monday where a resident reported an ongoing issue with a woman coming onto his property. Video showed the woman attempting to block the camera while gathering sticks from the property as well as being near the garage. The woman had been warned about the issue previously and the matter was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 6 p.m. Monday where a resident reported her juvenile daughter was receiving unwanted texts from an adult male. The matter was turned over to a detective.
— Officers responded to the 2000 block of Oak Street at 1:53 p.m. Monday where a woman reported her daughter was irate because she would not give her children back to her. The woman said she picked up the children and they told her there had been a physical altercation between them and their mother. Officers spoke with the children about the incident and the matter was forwarded to children services.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 11:10 a.m. Monday where a resident reported finding a young juvenile walking by the roadway in front of her house. Officers spoke with the juvenile’s grandmother who was on scene. The grandmother said she was outside painting with the juvenile when the juvenile wandered off. The matter was forwarded to children services.
— Juan Alonzo Tomas, 19, Salem, was cited for failure to control following a one-vehicle crash on East Third Street at North Lundy Avenue at 10:45 a.m. Monday in which he was eastbound and attempted to turn north, traveling off the left side of the roadway and then back across before striking an unoccupied parked vehicle and flipping on his vehicle’s side, continuing through the curb lawn and striking a street sign before coming to rest back in the roadway. No injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 10:01 a.m. Monday where a resident reported receiving unwanted calls from someone she knows. She was advised of her options for dealing with the matter.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 10:56 p.m. Sunday in reference to a domestic in progress and spoke with the caller who said he had been in a verbal argument with his girlfriend when she punched him in the head before leaving the residence. Officers observed the caller to have a torn T-shirt but no injuries. The girlfriend later responded to the police station regarding the incident. The matter is under investigation.
