County Sheriff
— Deputies were dispatched at 12:09 a.m. Thursday to Leetonia High School, Walnut Street, Leetonia, for an alarm going off. Deputies checked the exterior, finding all doors secure.
— A welfare check was requested at 11:32 p.m. Sunday on Rochester Road, West Township, but the female was not there when deputies arrived.
— A deputy at 11:31 p.m. Friday took a report of a stolen vehicle from a local campground on Winona Road. While taking the initial report, the suspect contacted the victim to let her know where her vehicle was left. A warrant was issued for the suspect, Michael Gatt, 54, Malibu Avenue, East Palestine, who already appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court this week for the theft charge, which remains pending.
East Liverpool
— Officers were dispatched Aug. 1 at 10:38 a.m. to Minerva Street for a male possibly overdosing. The male identified as Dalton McKinnon, 21, address not provided, was found bent over and appearing intoxicated. Officers, after patting McKinnon down to remove a knife from him, felt syringes in his pocket along with suspected drugs.
— Officers took a report Aug. 1 at 7:43 a.m. from a male saying he was receiving threatening messages from his ex-girlfriend’s phone but believes it to be her new boyfriend sending the messages.
— Officers received a report Aug. 1 at 11:52 p.m. of a male outside of a residence in the 900 block of Railroad Street trying car doors and yelling. Officers noted the male lived there and was sitting outside his house listening to music.
— Officers were dispatched to St. Clair Avenue Aug. 1 at 2:35 p.m. for a possible male trespasser. Officers spoke with the male who was sitting behind a building and advised him to move along.
— Officers responded Aug. 1 at 8:32 p.m. to a call from the East Liverpool City Hospital reporting the discovery of green vegetable matter, a brownie and a smoking device in a McDonald’s bag in a patient’s belongings. The patient wouldn’t claim ownership, which showed a lack in the chain of custody. Officers collected the items for destruction.
— Officers were dispatched Aug. 1 at 7:53 p.m. to the 1000 Block of St. George Street for a burn complaint. The owners of the property were burning a dead hollow tree. Officers requested the fire department to come.
Liverpool Township
— An officer checking vehicular speed on Boring Lane Aug. 19 clocked a vehicle at 5:11 p.m. going 39 mph in a 25-mph zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and issued a citation with mandatory court date to Nathaniel Nardini, age and address not provided, for speed and driving under suspension.
St. Clair Township
— An officer issued a citation with court for non-compliance suspension to Robert Simms, age and address not provided, July 28 at 5:57 p.m. after a traffic stop was conducted on Sprucevale Road.
— An officer responding to a call on July 29 at 3:42 a.m. in the 16500 of Glenn Street for a person to be removed placed Timothy Boggs, 31, address not provided, under arrest for criminal trespass due to being in a residence on a property he was told not to return to.
— An officer responding to a crash on Calcutta Smith Ferry Road on July 31 at 7:56 p.m. observed one of the involved drivers exhibiting signs of intoxication. The officer had the driver, identified as Taylor Lemasters, 29, address not provided, do a series of field sobriety tests which he did not successfully complete. The officer, who also detected a strong smell of alcohol on Lemasters, administered a BAC test which showed Lemasters having a BAC of .212. Lemasters was cited and issued a court date for failure to control and OVI.
— After conducting a traffic stop for a moving violation on state Route 170 July 31 at 8 p.m., an officer, who identified the driver as Bernard T. McLaughlin, 39, address not given, discovered McLaughlin was driving under suspension with an open container of alcohol and a loaded firearm. McLaughlin was placed under arrest and charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
— An officer took a complaint Aug. 3 at 11:59 a.m. from a female reporting that another female left her a voicemail saying she would come for her and children and to calm her children down or she would be burying them. The female wanted the threat reported in case something happened to her or her children. The officer recorded the voicemail with his body cam.
— Officers on patrol Aug. 5 at 9:31 p.m. conducted a random plate check on a vehicle in the parking lot of Quality Inn which showed the registered owner Shea Holden, 44, address not provided, to have to active felony warrants out of Stark County. The officers entered the hotel and made contact with Holden who said he was there with his daughter. An officer contacted the child’s mother who came to pick her up. Holden was transported to St. Clair Township Police Department for processing.
— Officers were dispatched to Dwyco Office Product on St. Clair Avenue Aug. 5 at 7:05 p.m. for an attempted theft of four chairs.
— Officers were dispatched to Factory Connection in Summit Plaza Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. for a male having suicidal thoughts. The male was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by Lifeteam EMS.
— Officers were dispatched to the 48000 block McDonald Street Aug. 7 at 8:15 p.m. for a report of an intoxicated male that was refusing the request of the property owners to leave. The male, identified as Christopher Pierce, 36, address not provided, according to the property owners showed up drunk and argued with them then left. Liverpool Township police radioed they had just witnessed the car he was reported to be driving strike a placard on state Route 267 and then go into the Dollar General Store. After refusing a field sobriety test, Pierce was placed under arrest. Officers found an open container of Jose Cuervo in his vehicle. A BAC came back with a .244 reading. Pierce was charged with OVI, open container in a motor vehicle and failure to control a motor vehicle.
— An officer responding to the 15000 block of state Route 170 for a report of an ATM Kiosk open door Aug. 7 at 7:49 p.m. found the door open, but did not see any damage done to the ATM. The officer secured the door and checked around the building to make sure it was secure.
— An officer spoke with a male at his residence in the 16000 block of Valley Drive Aug. 8 at 8:18 p.m. regarding an animal complaint. The resident was to keep his dogs on his property or he could possibly be charged with animals at large.
Wellsville
— Officers responded July 23 at 5:55 p.m. to a report of theft at the Kwik King Food Mart. Employees at the store told officer they had witnessed Glenn Bender, age and address not provided, shove bottles of alcohol priced at $2.35 in his back pockets and leave the store without paying for them. Officers placed Bender under arrest and charged him with theft after he admitted to stealing two bottles of Fireball.
— Officers responded to Independence Square Aug. 5 at 4:51 p.m. for a custody altercation.
— Officers were dispatched Aug. 5 at 3:08 p.m. to a traffic collision on Second Street.
— A female came to the police department Aug. 13 at 4:30 p.m. to report a restraining order violation and report that she fears the family members of the person the restraining is against may try to harm her.
— Officers were dispatched Aug. 13 at 4:07 p.m. to Heaton’s Tire Shop to speak with a male regarding a fraudulent purchase made through his AT&T account.
— Officers were dispatched to the 230 block of Erie Alley Aug. 16 at 9:53 p.m. in reference to an open line 9-1-1 call via the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers arrived and spoke to a female who said she just wanted her children’s father to leave. The father left when officers arrived and advised him not to return.
— Officers were dispatched Aug. 17 at 12:51 p.m. to the 10th Street extension for a crash regarding a mail truck. Officers spoke with the driver who said the truck would not turn to the left and she hit the barrier on the right side of the road.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Cleveland Street at 6:42 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised she couldn’t get into her residence and could observe the male party inside was nonresponsive. The fire department was able to gain entry with a key from the caller, and officers spoke with the man who advised he was just sleeping and did not need medical assistance.
— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and East Pershing Street at 4:16 p.m. Monday for a juvenile complaint. The caller advised there were two young juveniles playing near the roadway. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the source of the complaint.
— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 3:44 p.m. Monday for an animal complaint. Officers were advised of a dog left inside of a vehicle in a parking lot at a local business. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 2:39 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she had taken her adult daughter to the emergency room for medical attention, but she wouldn’t get out of the vehicle. Officers spoke with the daughter who advised she was fine and did not want medical attention. The mother was advised of her options.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of North Union Avenue at 12:18p.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised a person had made a concerning statement prior to leaving the hospital. Officers spoke with the person who advised the statement was a misunderstanding and following further discussion was determined not to need pink slipped.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:46 a.m. Monday for a medical call. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the walking trail at Waterworth Memorial Park at 1:36 p.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious person. The trail was checked on foot, but officers did not locate the person in question.
— Officers responded to a business in the 2800 block of East State Street at 12:27 p.m. Thursday for a report of theft. Officers spoke with asset protection officer and reviewed video of the incident, and a charge via summons will be issued for the involved parties.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue at 12:15 p.m. Thursday for an open burning complaint. The caller advised trash was being burnt. Officers spoke with the homeowner, advising them of the complaint. The fire department responded and advised them that only dry seasoned firewood can be burnt.
— Officers responded to a business in the 2800 block of East State Street 12:03 p.m. Thursday for a report of an unattended child in a motor vehicle. Officers located the vehicle with two juveniles within, one of which was a teenager. Officers spoke with the teenager who was able to contact his mother by phone. Officers observed the mother coming out of the business who advised she had just run inside to get a prescription filled.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:09 p.m. Thursday for a wellness check on a woman yelling for help. Officers spoke with the involved parties, both of which advised the argument was verbal in nature only, and that everything was fine.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Elm Avenue at 1:22 a.m. Thursday for a 911 hang-up call. Officers checked the area for several minutes, but no problems were located.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Third Street at 12:48 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that a vehicle they didn’t recognize had been sitting outside for a long period of time. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded to Salem Welding at 12:23 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle in question, and checked the building’s doors to ensure they were secure, which they were.
— Officers responded to the area of Sebo Stadium at 11:33 p.m. Wednesday for a report of red flashing lights in the area. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anything abnormal.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fourth Street at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check on a woman the caller said was having relationship issues with her spouse. Officers spoke with all parties involved and found the incident to be a misunderstanding. All parties involved were advised to contact officers back if needed.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Third Street at 8:38 p.m. Wednesday for a property issue. The caller advised that her friend had purchased a vehicle but put it into their name and was refusing to give them the title. Officers spoke with the friend who advised he had not put the title in the caller’s name and would bring proof of whose name was listed on the title to the department the next day to resolve the matter.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:26 p.m. Wednesday for a person to be removed. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised he was trying to return a vape and the clerk was giving him issues. The clerk called the manager who advised the person to come back the next day when they were in. Officers also advised the person to leave for the evening and speak with the manager the next day.
— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street at 8:13 p.m. Wednesday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that a woman was seen yelling at a vehicle that was following her. Officers found the parties involved were a couple in a verbal altercation. After speaking with both parties involved, officers determined nothing physical had occurred and sent them on their way.
— Officers on patrol observed two vehicles in the Waterworth Memorial Park Dog Park after hours at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. Officers spoke with the occupants and advised them of park hours.
