County Sheriff

— A resident of Peace Valley Road, Unity Township, reported at 5:25 p.m. Friday that a Norfolk Southern train was blocking his driveway, which is a private crossing. Dispatch contacted Norfolk Southern and they advised it would be 25 to 30 minutes.

— A deputy was dispatched at 9:01 p.m. Thursday to Boardman Street, New Waterford, for a person who overdosed. While en route, dispatch said to disregard because New Waterford EMS transported the person to St. Elizabeth Boardman.

— A suspicious person was reported at a business on U.S. Route 30, the By the Way Cafe, in West Township at 7:33 a.m. Thursday. The area was checked and nothing out of the ordinary was found.

— A woman on Taylor Road, Middleton Township, reported a custody issue at 6:54 p.m. Aug. 9 with her grandson’s mother. Both were told to contact attorneys.

— A woman on state Route 165, Unity Township, reported at 4:15 p.m. Aug. 9 that a man from Youngstown keeps driving by her residence recording her. She has a no contact order on him from Columbiana County Municipal Court.

— A man on Butler Grange Road, Butler Township, reported at 2:33 p.m. Aug. 9 that another man was trespassing on the property and causing a disturbance.

Lisbon

— Homeowners at a property on East Pine Street Extension reported at 9:41 a.m. Saturday that the neighbor’s tree fell on their fence. There did not seem to be any damage. They just wanted it documented in case there are issues.

— An officer responded to the juvenile court parking lot at 8:01 a.m. Saturday for a dumpster that had been moved. A woman said the dumpster was moved behind their vehicles sometime in the morning. She said she called the trash company but their office was closed for the morning. The vehicles were able to get around the dumpster and she said she would call the trash company on Monday.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of North Market Street at 11:16 p.m. Aug. 7 for a possible domestic. Nothing was heard upon arrival. A woman denied there being any domestic and said her husband was not home. Another woman said she had not heard anything and wasn’t sure if the man was home, giving permission to police to search the residence. The man was not found. The neighbor who called said he saw someone climbing on the roof. The first woman said it was her and that she entered the house that way often. Both women were told there was a warrant for the man and to call police if he came back.

— Officers at 9:51 p.m. Aug. 7 noticed a man wanted on a warrant walking into Dollar General on Rose Drive near closing time. As the officers turned around, the man came out of the rear emergency door and took off on foot. An audible alarm could be heard coming from the building. Officers could not locate him. Store staff said the door was supposed to be locked, but it was open. They said the man was a regular customer who came in almost nightly. The manager said nothing appeared damaged or stolen.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 4:47 p.m. Thursday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with taking a man into custody. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police department for processing. Officers seized $150 as evidence as part of the investigation.

— Officers responded to the Giant Eagle parking lot at 1:18 p.m. Thursday for a report of a dog inside a vehicle. Officers spoke with the owner and observed the dog to be healthy and not in any distress. The owner advised that she had just gone into the store for milk.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:08 a.m. Thursday at the request of the fire department to help them recover their property that was left in an apartment during a call. The fire department successfully recovered their property.

— Officers responded to the 1000 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:26 a.m. Thursday for a speak with officer report. Officers found no police action was required.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Broadway Avenue at 8 a.m. Thursday for a wellness check on a man sleeping in a parked car. Officers were able to wake the man, but due to a language barrier an interpreter was contacted. While waiting for the interpreter the man, Tomas Alonzo, 37, Salem, gave officers a fake name, date of birth and address. When the interpreter arrived, they recognized Alonzo and gave officers his correct information. Alonzo was arrested for falsification and transported to the police department for paperwork and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of East State Street at 3:11 a.m. Thursday for a report of a possibly intoxicated driver. Officers checked the area but found no vehicle matching the description.

— Officers checked on a suspicious vehicle behind Goodwill at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday. Officers spoke with the occupants and advised them to leave the area. Officers responded to a business in the 500 block of East State Street at 10:05 p.m. Thursday to speak with the manager regarding a matter concerning one of the employees. Officers collected the necessary information

— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Ridgewood Drive at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a dog at large. Officers were able to locate the dog but were unable to catch it. The humane agent was contacted to respond to the area and attempt to obtain the dog.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 6:07 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a dog at large. The dog was secured by the caller, and due to the humane officer being unavailable, the caller transported the dog to the humane society.

— Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 5:47 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a stolen bicycle. The man advised his son’s bicycle had been stolen from his residence and provided officers with a description of the bicycle. Officers advised they would keep an eye out for the bike and that a report would be on file.

— Officers spoke with a woman at the police department at 5:14 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a runaway juvenile. The woman advised her 15-year-old juvenile had left without permission and she didn’t know where she was. The juveniles was entered into LEADS. The caller later called the department and advised that the juvenile had returned to the home around 7 p.m. but left again around 9:40 p.m. after the woman had left for work.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Penn Avenue at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday for a reported theft. The caller advised an unknown person had stolen her purse. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Ninth Street at 4:39 p.m. Wednesday for a complaint of drug paraphernalia. The caller showed officers what she thought to be drugs were not. While officers were on scene the caller asked that they check on a person who was not acting properly. It was determined the person was under the influence of narcotics and the fire department and EMT responded and transported the person to the hospital.

— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Third Street at 3:38 p.m. Wednesday for a reported altercation between the caller and a woman. The caller claimed he told the woman to leave his residence and she started yelling and threw a pop can at his head and cut him. Officers were able to locate the woman who claimed the caller went crazy attacking her and choking her, and that she broke away from him and fled the apartment.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Cleveland Street at 1:31 p.m. Wednesday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised he was having problems with their teenage daughter. Officers advised the juvenile that until they are 18 years old, they need to listen to their parents and do what they tell them.

— Officers observed a man known to them to have a suspended license driving a vehicle in the area of East Pershing Street and Washington Avenue at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday. Officers conducted a stop on the vehicle issuing the man, Thomas Klink Jr., 32, Salem, a citation for driving under suspension, and advising the passenger, and owner of the vehicle that if Klink was seen driving the vehicle again, she would be charged with wrongful entrustment.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 12:21 a.m. Wednesday for a wellness check on a man slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle. Officers made contact with the person who advised that he was fine and had just pulled over to take a nap.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 12:10 a.m. Monday for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Officers found the vehicle had already left prior to their arrival.
