County Sheriff
— A deputy was called at 4:24 a.m. Thursday to Hilltop Lawn and Garden, state Route 14, outside Washingtonville, for a suspicious vehicle. The person in the vehicle was allowed on the property.
— A Fairless Schools bus driver advised at 1:02 p.m. Wednesday at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, Homeworth Road, Knox Township, that she collided with a vehicle in the parking lot while making a turn. No one was on the bus at the time while she was moving the bus to the front of the lot to board students. The driver said she cut the corner too close due to a golf cart in the driveway and scraped the front corner of a car. She stopped to back up, but the brush guard bumper caught in the buses rear wheel well and pulled it half way off the Toyota. She and the Toyota owner exchanged driver, phone number and insurance information. She was also told to contact the school’s bus superintendent and insurance company with the Toyota’s owner information.
— A woman at Deer Run mobile home park, U.S. Route 62, Butler Township, reported at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday that her juvenile child was being unruly. She was told to contact Columbiana County Juvenile Court.
— A woman on Butcher Road, Salem Township reported at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday that her Look Out for Motorcycle sign was stolen from her front yard.
— A resident on Grafton Road, Salem Township, reported at 8:52 p.m. Tuesday that a vehicle traveled by her residence and a male was shooting a gun from it. Deputies were unable to locate the vehicle.
— A South 12th Street, Knox Township resident reported at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday that his mailbox was damaged.
— A man from Butler Grange Road, Butler Township, reported at 6:44 p.m. Tuesday that his ex-employer won’t give him his work tools back. He was advised to take him to civil court. At 5:48 p.m. Tuesday, a woman from the residence reported the ex-employer was trespassing on the property causing a disturbance.
— A deputy at 5:47 a.m. Monday assisted a female on a medical call on Spillway Road, Hanover Township.
— A woman at 11:20 p.m. Sunday was advised her options for getting her property from her ex-boyfriend.
— Deputies assisted local fire departments after a mobile home caught fire in the early morning hours at 1:05 a.m. Saturday on Shady Lane Road, Center Township. An investigation into the cause of the fire was pending.
Lisbon
— An officer at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday encountered two juvenile females out walking after curfew in the area of Washington Street and Maple. The officer escorted them back to their residence on West Washington Street before telling them to stay indoors for the night.
— Officers assisted the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office at 10:23 p.m. Tuesday at Taco Bell where a male was supposedly sleeping in his truck. He was observed by officers walking around outside of his truck, with an open container of beer in the cupholder. Deputies arrived and learned he had an active warrant for his arrest out of Columbiana County. K-9 Otis was deployed and hit on the presence of narcotics. After a search of the vehicle, multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia were found, along with some narcotics. The male was transported to the jail by deputies.
— An employee of Circle K, North Market Street, called at 8:19 p.m. Tuesday to report an unwanted person the store manager wanted removed from the property for allegedly loitering. The person was sitting in a vehicle in front of another store and told to go park somewhere else.
— A suspicious male was reported at 9:53 a.m. Aug. 6 in a neighbor’s garage acting strange near Family Recovery. Officers located the male, who resided there and said he was gathering some things from the garage. His mom shares the garage with another tenant.
— An officer responded at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 3 to the 900 block of North Market Street for a possible breaking and entering reported by a woman who said someone tried to break into her room and that her door was hanging off of the hinge. She claimed it wasn’t like that earlier and that she found it that way when she returned home. The officer spoke to her mother and she said the woman did it to her door herself and even put the door up to the bedroom. The woman denied it.
— A male was recently told he’s no longer allowed at Dollar General on Rose Drive, with an employee saying he comes in several times a day and is yelling and scaring her and the customers. He came in and got a pop and started to drink it, then his card was declined and he just left. He’s also no longer allowed to be in Circle K on North Market Street.
East Palestine
— Officers responded at 12:43 a.m. to East Main Street for a disturbance on July 27. Officers made contact with the resident who advised no incident had taken place.
— Officers received a report from an East Main Street resident at 3:52 a.m. on July 24 about receiving harassing text messages.
— Officers responded at 1:08 p.m. to North Sumner Street on July 27 to the report of possible animal abuse and warned a resident about leaving his dog outside in extreme heat. The officers advised any future incidents would lead to charges.
— Officers responded at 1:30 p.m. on July 27 to a zoning complaint on Garfield Avenue.
— Officers responded at 6:30 p.m. on July 27 to the Dollar General for a tripped alarm. Nothing at the scene was found to be out of the ordinary. An employee arrived to reset the alarm.
— Officers conducted a welfare check at 12:37 p.m. on East Martin Street on July 28. The subject was unable to be located by a relative advised the subject was with family and was safe.
— A Wheathill Road resident brought a dog to the station at 1:56 p.m. on July 28. The resident had found the dog in his swimming pool. The dog was later returned to its owner.
— A resident on East Main Street reported that a vehicle struck the rear of her vehicle and left the scene at 3:01 p.m. on July 28. After an investigation, Nicolette Peronis, no age or address provided, was cited for assured clear distance, leaving the scene of an accident and child endangerment.
— Officers responded to a report at 5:21 p.m. of a dog tied outside without water at an East Main Street residence on July 28. An officer checked the area but did not locate the dog.
— Officers took a report from a male at 8:03 p.m. on July 30 regarding being harassed on social media.
— Officers received a report at 1:17 a.m. of telecommunications harassment on July 30 from a resident on Alice Street.
— Officers took a report of a stolen credit card at 7:49 p.m. on July 31. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to a hang-up 911 call at 9:07 p.m. on Alice St. on July 31. The officer found the call to be accidental.
— Officers responded at 12:54 a.m. to West Martin Street to a report of a barking dog on Aug. 1.
— Officers responded at 3:07 a.m. to East Clark Street to a 911 call on Aug. 1. A juvenile was found making the call and the parents were warned of the consequences.
— Officers spoke to a resident on East Main Street at 4 p.m. on Aug. 1 regarding her ex-boyfriend looking in her mailbox, which the resident had captured on video. She advised her ex-boyfriend had moved out the day before and officers advised her that a change of address takes time to process.
— Officers responded at 1:54 p.m. to North Market Street on Aug. 2 to a report of two dogs inside a kennel on a porch without food or water. Officers spoke to the owner of the animals about the complaint.
— Officers responded at 2:44 p.m. to North Market Street on Aug. 2 to a report of a male trying to engage another in a physical fight. The male had left the scene before officers arrived.
— Officers responded at 8:12 p.m. on Aug. 2 to a report of vehicle peeling tires and throwing gravel on East Clark Street. Officers watched video footage of the incident and spoke to the suspect. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the Marathon Gas station for a private property crash at 9:28 p.m. on Aug. 2 regarding a vehicle that coasted backward striking a truck.
— Officers responded at 11:25 p.m. on East Main Street on Aug. 2 to conduct a welfare check. Officers made contact with the subject.
— Officers found a door open at the Presbyterian Church on Rebecca Street at 10:01 p.m. on Aug. 2. Officers found nothing amiss and were able to secure the door.
Leetonia
— Officers responded to the first block of Wilson Street at 7:30 p.m. Monday for a report of her neighbor breaking into her home and stealing her things. The caller alleged that her neighbor breaks into her home through her bathroom window frequently, and that the window is always locked but he can unlock it and disable the alarms and avoids the cameras, so he isn’t caught. The caller also claimed he had stolen her handmade blanket from her living room.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Ridge Street at 3:22 p.m. Monday for a neighbor complaint. The caller alleged that his neighbor, Shane Meade, 44, Leetonia, was screaming at him and acting irate in the street in front of the caller’s children, and that this is part of an ongoing issue between Meade and all his neighbors. Officers met Meade in the front yard, and due to Meade’s behavior placed him in handcuffs for safety. Due to Meade’s behavior officers gave him the option to be voluntarily transported to the hospital for treatment or be pink slipped. Meade chose to be transported voluntarily and EMT transported him to the Salem Regional Medical Center. Officers later learned that Meade left the hospital before being checked in and returned to the residence and began yelling at his neighbors again, necessitating officers return to the residence at 7:52 p.m. Officers spoke with Meade, who was intoxicated, through his upstairs window who advised he was upset and yelling at his neighbor for stealing his things and messing with him. Officers have spoken with Meade about his behavior and advised him he needs to stop screaming at neighbors and passerby multiple times. Officers advised Meade he would be charged with disorderly conduct and Meade repeatedly argued with officers, refusing to return to the hospital or go to jail and claiming officers would need to shoot him before he went anywhere. Meade became increasingly agitated and with the assistance of a second officer he was placed in handcuffs, while he continued to being placed into the patrol car, forcing the second officer to deploy his taser on him twice. Meade was transported to the Columbiana County Jail where he continued his aggressive behavior with jail staff.
— Officers spoke to a man by phone at 9:47 p.m. Sunday regarding a domestic incident. The caller advised that his two juvenile children had called him saying they needed to be picked up from their mother’s house because her boyfriend was drunk and had destroyed the house, thrown their dressers, and was screaming obscene things at them. The caller advised he had picked up the children and taken them to his home to stay for a couple of days, and requested to keep them until the boyfriend no longer lives at the residence. The caller has partial custody over his son but not his daughter. The caller also advised that the house is in disarray, and the boyfriend is frequently drunk and has had many issues with the children including previous instances of physical abuse with his son, and he is concerned for the well-being of the children in their mother’s care. The caller expressed interest in getting some type of restraining order or temporary custody order in place and officers advised he would need to contact the courts. Officers spoke with the mother who advised that an incident did occur where the contents of the house were tossed and there was yelling between everyone in the house, but that she and the children had not been home when the boyfriend tossed the house. Officers spoke to the boyfriend who said that he had thrown the items around the house to teach the kids a lesson about respect.
— Officers responded to state Route 344 at 4:45 p.m. Friday for a report of a possibly impaired driver entering the village. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver, conducting field sobriety testing and finding him to be unimpaired.
— Officers responded to Old State Route 344 at 1:30 p.m. July 28 for a report of an unknown substance in the roadway. Officers located a large amount of what appeared to be an oil-based product and contacted the fire department to deploy oil dry on the roadway. A farm tractor pulling machinery stopped and advised officers it was hydraulic oil from the equipment he was pulling. The fire department was advised of the same and officers advised him not to drive the tractor and equipment on the roadway until the issue was fixed. He advised he would fix the leak and the fire department was assisted in completing cleanup by the Salem Township Road Department while officers provided traffic control.
Goshen
— Officers on patrol in the area of state Route 165 observed a vehicle with the incorrect license plates at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, conducting a traffic stop. Officers spoke with the driver, Annette Viano, 53, Youngstown, who advised they knew why officers were stopping them and that she had purchased the vehicle from a friend over a year ago and simply hadn’t had time to get plates for it. Officers requested the title of the vehicle which she could not provide; however, the VIN of the vehicle did not flag as stolen. Due to the lack of the title, and the plate itself being nearly two years out of date, the vehicle was towed, and officers advised Viano to get the title and get the vehicle put in her name to retrieve it from impound and issued a citation for fictitious plates.
–Officers responded to the 7100 block of South Range Road at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a semi that went off the road into a ditch. Officers spoke with the driver who advised his transmission was overheating so he decided to pull over and went a little bit too far over. Officers directed traffic until the towing company arrived and removed the semi without issue.
–Tim Rinestine, 52, Salem, was cited for speeding after his southbound vehicle on Cleveland East Liverpool Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 3:09 a.m. Tuesday.
–Officers responded to the 7600 block of South Range Road at 2:07 p.m. Monday for a report of a reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
–Teresa Firth, 62, Kensington, was cited for failure to obey traffic control devices after her northbound vehicle on Egypt Road failed to stop at a stop sign at 9:39 p.m. Sunday.
–Noah Levans, 18, Salem, was cited for driving under suspension after a random license plate check on his vehicle on Alliance Salem Road showed the owner to be suspended at 7:23 p.m. Aug. 5.
–Sarah Day, 40, Salem, was cited for speeding after her northbound vehicle on Egypt Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 4:43 p.m. Aug. 4.
–Kimberly Shoaff, 57, Salem, was cited for speeding after her northbound vehicle on Egypt Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 4:23 p.m. Aug. 4.
–Jody Graffius, 26, North Lima, was cited for speeding after her northbound vehicle on Egypt Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 1:15 p.m. Aug. 4.
–Seth Keller, 25, Leetonia, was cited for speeding after his northbound vehicle on Egypt Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 12:50 p.m. Aug. 4.
–Devon Jenningson, 34, Cleveland, was cited for failure to obey traffic control devices after his northbound semi-truck was observed traveling on Egypt Road in a well-marked no truck traffic zone at 12:03 p.m. Aug. 4.
— Stephanie Swank, no age of address listed, was cited for driving under suspension stemming from a traffic stop after her northbound vehicle on Main Street was observed with a brake light out at 6:10 p.m. Aug. 2.
— Catherine Grimm, no age or address listed, was cited for driving under suspension after a random license plate check on her vehicle on Alliance Salem Road showed the owner to be suspended at 8:45 p.m. Aug 1.
— Hailey Sturtz, 30, Youngstown, was cited for speeding after her northbound vehicle on Egypt Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 1.
— Jesse Bell, 32, Columbiana, was cited for speeding after his southbound vehicle on Egypt Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 8:48 a.m. Aug. 1.
— Jessica Cleva, 38, Youngstown, was cited for speeding after her eastbound vehicle on Western Reserve Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 10:50 a.m. July 30.
— Sharae Massey, 41, Atlanta, Georgia, was cited for speeding after his southeastbound vehicle on state Route 14 was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 1:43 a.m. July 30.
— Devon Mitchel, 19, Youngstown, was cited for speeding after his northbound vehicle on Columbiana-Canfield Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 9:25 a.m. July 29.
— Officers on patrol on Alliance Salem Road at 1:34 a.m. July 29 observed a suspicious man walking on the shoulder. Officers identified the man as Konner Shields, 23, Akron, running him through dispatch. Dispatch advised that Shields had an active warrant for his arrest from the Kent State University Police Department and officers took him into custody while dispatch confirmed Kent State officers wanted him. Dispatch advised they were unable to meet for a custody exchange, so officers gave Shields a courtesy transport to Sebring and advised him to turn himself in at a later date.
— Tyler Cole, 32, Youngstown, was cited for speeding after his northbound vehicle on Youngstown Salem Road was observed traveling in excess of the speed limit at 11:35 p.m. July 28.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Johnson Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of two juveniles knocking on doors and running off. Officers patrolled the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.
— Officers spoke to a man by phone at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday who advised that an unemployment claim had been filed under his name. Officers advised the man to contact the state to report the fraud.
— Officers spoke to a woman by phone at 3 p.m. Tuesday who advised she had responded to a message on TikTok and given out her personal phone number and personal information with the person about her family, and then began receiving disturbing messages. The caller was advised to block the individual and not to give out personal details on social media to unknown people nor to share family information with them.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of the Prospect Street Extension at 10:57 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a juvenile thrown out of the house. Officers spoke with the caller and the juvenile, learning the juvenile had ridden her bicycle from her residence in the 800 block. Officers transported the juvenile and her bicycle to meet with Salem officers at the residence. Salem officers handled the complaint and responded to where the mother’s child was working.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of West Pine Lake Road at 5:40 p.m. Monday for a report of an unruly juvenile. Officers were able to de-escalate the situation while waiting for the juvenile’s father to pick him up. The father and grandmother were advised of their options.
–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 10:32 p.m. Sunday to assist the Salem Police Department. Officers stood by while Salem officers conducted their investigation until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 10:51 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possible break in. The caller advised that when she arrived home after being out of town her front door and windows were open. Officers entered the home but found nobody inside, nor did the owner report anything missing or damaged. Officers advised her to keep all windows and doors locked and possibly invest in a camera.
— Officers responded to the Columbiana County Humane Society at 10:47 p.m. Aug. 4 to assist the humane agent. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
— Officers on patrol on state Route 45 at 4:52 p.m. Aug. 4 located a vehicle off the roadway. Officers spoke with the driver Brian Allen, 53, East Canton, observing Allen to have obvious injuries and smell of alcohol. EMT responded and transported Allen to the Salem Regional Medical Center for treatment and Sinsley Towing responded to remove the vehicle. Allen was later arrested, charged with OVI reasonable control, driving under suspension, littering and a seatbelt violation, and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Sixth Street at 11:27 p.m. Thursday for a report of an animal that had allegedly been sprayed with mace. Officers advised the caller to take the animal to the vet if its condition worsens.
— Officers responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Third Street at 11:20 p.m. Thursday for a report of a man lying in the roadway. Officers spoke with the man, finding him to be intoxicated, and gave him a transport home. Officers issued him warnings for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of North Madison Avenue at 10:21 p.m. Thursday for a report of someone yelling for help. Officers spoke with an elderly man at the residence who advised he was having a panic attack but was okay now. Officers had first responders come to the residence to check the man and ensure he had no other physical issues. He was found to be okay.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 8:53 p.m. Thursday for a person to be removed. The caller advised a man was acting strangely and he wanted him to be removed. Officers spoke with the man, and he left the area without incident.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Seventh Street at 8:07 p.m. Thursday for a report of a dog at large. Officers checked the area but did not locate any dog running loose.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East State Street at 7:52 p.m. Thursday for a report of an irate woman. The woman and her family were asked to leave the area which she ultimately did.
