Highway Patrol

–David Smith, 47, Grants Pass, Oregon, was cited for right of way after his eastbound vehicle on state Route 558 failed to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left turn onto state Route 7, and struck a vehicle driven by Heather Pitts, 38, Lisbon, at 3:13 p.m. Jan. 14, in Fairfield Township. No injuries were reported.


–Officers responded to the Salem Regional Medical Center at 3:11 a.m. Saturday in reference to a disorderly patient. Officers spoke with the patient and advised him to remain calm and respectful, to which he agreed.

–Officers responded with medical personnel to the 900 block of Homewood Avenue at 12:15 a.m. Saturday in reference to a man who had taken medications in an attempt to harm himself. The man was willingly transported to the hospital.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of South Union Avenue at 10 p.m. Friday in reference to possible shots fired in the area. Officers checked the area but could not find anyone or any discharged casings.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of East Third Street at 5:51 p.m. Friday where a resident reported a package containing a new cell phone had been stolen off her porch after it had been reported delivered.

–An officer responded to the 1100 block of Orchard Bend Drive at 4:17 p.m. Friday where a caller reported he was walking his dog when another dog came out a front door of a residence, circling him and his dog and trying to attack his dog. He said his dog yelped but didn’t have any visible injury. The officer spoke with the dog’s owner and issued a verbal warning for dog at large.

–An officer responded to the 1000 block of East State Street at 4:10 p.m. Friday in reference to an intoxicated person in a vehicle. The officer spoke with the person in question who admitted to having an open container, which was then dumped out. The person said she was under stress due to an unknown person stalking her. She was advised of her options regarding the stalk complaint and turned over to a family member.

–A North Union Avenue resident reported at 3:07 p.m. Friday he received a letter from the United States Small Business Administration advising of a delinquent loan. The resident said he never opened the loan and believed it to be related to a past fraud incident involving unemployment benefits.

–Officers responded to the area of Cedar Ridge Drive and Summit Street at 9:22 a.m. Friday where a woman reported her vehicle was being used without her consent. Officers were able to retrieve the keys to the vehicle and return them to the caller.

–Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street at 8:47 a.m. Friday in reference to a garbage truck that had hit a telephone pole. The truck had been replaced before officers arrived.

New Waterford

–Officers responded to the 3100 block of Pinewood Drive at 9:10 a.m. Jan. 16 in reference to a sick raccoon and determined the animal needed to be euthanized.

–Officers responded to the 46000 block of Dogwood Circle at 4:19 p.m. Jan. 11 in reference to a possible sick raccoon but were unable to find the animal.

–Officers responded to the 3700 block of East Main Street at 4:53 p.m. Jan. 10 in reference to a woman having mental issues. The woman had made comments about harming herself and requested an ambulance take her to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

–A woman reported at 9:41 p.m. Jan. 8 her son’s laptop was possibly stolen in the 3300 block of Pinewood Drive.

–Officers responded to the 46000 block of South State Street at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in reference to a traffic crash but were unable to find any disabled vehicles in the area.
