County Sheriff
— A caller at 6:54 a.m. Tuesday reported a suspicious vehicle sitting in his driveway in the 14000 block of East Liverpool Road in Madison Township with two people inside. The resident chased them away after they had been there for a half hour. The vehicle left, but the caller said a man with black hair was standing there when he called dispatch. St. Clair Township police also were notified and responded and the person was gone. The resident checked his vehicles and found nothing missing and no evidence of tampering.
— A woman called at 6:28 a.m. Monday about a reckless driver she has encountered twice after leaving her residence to go to work while traveling on state Route 170 in Middleton Township. A deputy planned to check the area in the coming days.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 600 block of West Sixth Street at 5:27 a.m. Wednesday for a person to be removed. Officers contacted the man, who was extremely intoxicated, and advised him of the complaint. The man advised that he had not been told to leave by the homeowner and officers confirmed the homeowner wanted him off her property. The man was able to find a ride home for the night without incident.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 3:41 a.m. Wednesday for a possible water line break. Officers located the source of the water, which was coming from a pipe that led into a local business. Officers attempted to contact a key holder but were unable to.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of East Wilson Street at 1:57 a.m. for a person to be removed. The man had returned to the residence after a prior dispute and the caller made allegations about items on the man’s person. The man gave verbal consent for a search of his person and nothing illegal was located. After speaking with the man, he willingly said he would leave the property and would not return.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of East Wilson Street at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday for a report of threats. The caller advised that following a verbal argument with her ex-boyfriend he had threatened to harm her. A statement form was left with the caller if she wished to fill it out and she was advised of the protection order process.
— Officers responded to the area of Georgetown Road near the state Route 45 at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Perry Township Police Department with a traffic stop. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Continental Drive at 5:42 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised the person had just left a business and appeared to be on narcotics. Officers checked the residence and the surrounding area but were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
— Officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday after it made multiple moving violations. During the stop K-9 Simon was deployed and indicated to the presence of narcotic odor. Contraband was recovered on both the driver Cory Haueter, 36, Salem, and passenger Tristan Apinis, 35, Salem, who were arrested for drug paraphernalia and transported to the Columbiana County Jail directly from the scene.
— Officers responded to the intersection of North Lundy Avenue and East Second Street at 10:06 a.m. Tuesday for the report of a two-car accident. Myrtle Geho, 91, failed to stop at the stop sign, causing her vehicle to be struck by a vehicle driven by Thomas Hollander, 21, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. Geho was cited for failure to yield and no injuries were reported.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 8:29 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a person inside a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and spoke to the occupant who advised they had pulled over and fallen asleep.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West State Street at 6:58 a.m. Tuesday for a reckless operator. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver who denied the allegations.
— Officers responded to the area of Columbia Street and Penn Avenue at 6:34 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a suspicious person. Officers contacted the person and spoke with him, who stated he had been attempting to contact a friend who lived in the apartment building but he wouldn’t answer his door. Officers provided the man with a transport to his residence.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 11:17 p.m. Monday for an irate man walking down the sidewalk yelling. Officers informed him of the complaint and issued a disorderly contact warning.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 8:40 p.m. Monday for a possible breaking and entering report. Officers spoke to the caller who advised that the house across the street was vacant and set to be condemned and that he had seen a light on in the house prior to the officer’s arrival. Officers checked the area and did not locate any signs of forced entry. Officers did not find anyone at the house, either.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 7:30 p.m. Monday for a domestic in progress. Officers spoke with both parties who advised they got into an argument over personal issues, but it was verbal only and nothing physical had occurred.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fifth Street at 7:24 p.m. Monday for a possible vandalism report. The caller advised their window had been broken the prior night. Officers documented the damage and advised them a report would be made.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of East Sixth Street at 4:21 p.m. Monday for a breaking and entering. The caller advised an unknown person entered her home and damaged a TV. The incident was believed to have occurred between 5:40 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. that day.
— Officers spoke by phone to a social worker from Akron Children’s Hospital at 1:59 p.m. Monday about a possible sexual assault that may have occurred in the city. The information will be forwarded to a detective.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 2800 block of East State Street at 1:17 a.m. Monday for an animal complaint. The caller advised a cat had gotten loose and went inside the engine compartment of a vehicle. The cat was removed from the vehicle with no incidents and the officer cleared.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Jennings Avenue at 9:24 a.m. Monday for a report of an unsecured door at an abandoned residence. Officers checked the residence and found the door to be secured from the inside. Officers checked the exterior of the residence and found no signs of forced entry.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Homewood Avenue at 8:08 a.m. Monday for a report of possible criminal damaging. The caller advised a tire on her vehicle was flat and believed the tire had been slashed. The caller advised this has been an ongoing issue and wanted a report filed.
