–Officers responded to the 500 block of East Third Street at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Child Protective Services requested officers check on a woman and her son in the residence. Officers made contact with the woman and her son, finding them to be okay. Officers advised the woman to contact Children Protective Services.
–Officers responded to the area of Granite Avenue and Liberty Street at 10:57 a.m. Wednesday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller claimed a metal object was thrown at his vehicle destroying the window. The matter is under investigation.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of Ohio Avenue at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday with the Salem Fire Department for a fire alarm. Officers found the alarm was accidental on arrival.
–Officers were flagged down near the 1600 block of East State Street at 3:47 a.m. Wednesday by an individual who claimed to have seen a disturbed man with no shirt walking down the road. Officers made contact with the man who said he was taking a walk to clear his head. Officers determined everything checked out okay.
–Officers responded to a business on the 400 block of East State Street at 2:12 a.m. Wednesday for an alarm. Officers arrived and checked the exterior entrance to the business and found it to be secure.
–Officers responded to a business on the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday for a theft report. The caller claimed three women had stolen a hanging flower basket from the business. While checking the area officers located the three woman who ran from the officers and left the flower basket in the roadway. Officers checked the area but were unable to find the woman. The hanging basket was recovered and returned to business.
–While on patrol at 12:57 a.m. Wednesday an officer observed a man stumbling down the center of the roadway in the 100 block of South Union Avenue. Upon making contact with the man, it was immediately apparent he was extremely intoxicated, and he had a large laceration on his right shoulder blade with a large amount of blood on his back and hands. The man was detained and Salem Fire Department, and KLG were requested to respond. It was determined the man had fallen but did not know what had actually occurred. He was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by KLG for treatment, and later given a ride to his residence, with charges to follow later.
–While on patrol at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday an officer observed and man on a bicycle, with three young juveniles at the playground of Centennial Park. Officer spoke with the man who explained he was riding through the park with his brothers. Officers advised the man of park hours, and he left to take the juveniles home.
–While on patrol at 11:16 p.m. Tuesday Officer encountered a man and woman on Sunset Boulevard in the park near the band stage walking a dog. Officers informed them of the parks hours and they were sent on their way. As officers were leaving and the subjects were driving away, officers were informed the man, Nicholas Witherspoon, 34, South Middle Street, Columbiana, was driving under a suspended license. Officers conducted a traffic stop on North Lincoln Avenue near Parkview Drive, and made contact with the driver, confirming the suspension. Dispatch informed officers the man had an active warrant in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. Officers confirmed the Hatfield police department wanted the man, and he was taken into custody and transported to the Salem Police Department for paperwork. The man was then transported to the Columbiana County Jail. The vehicle was released to its owner on scene.
–Officers responded to the 2300 block of East Pershing Avenue at 9:52 p.m. Tuesday for a piece of exercise equipment in the roadway. When officers arrived, the item had already been removed.
–Officers responded to the 600 block of East Perry Street at 9: 07 p.m. Tuesday for an animal complaint. Officers arrived and spoke to the dog’s owner and informed them of the City Ordinance for a dog-at-large.
–Officers responded to the 600 block of West Pershing Street at 7:12 p.m. for reports of a juvenile walking a dog, and the dog pulling them into the roadway. Officers located the juvenile and walked the dog and juvenile back to their residence, and informed the juvenile’s mother of the complaint.
–Officers took a report at the station in regards to Children Services. Officers spoke with the individual and informed them they needed to contact Children Services. Officers spoke with the other parties involved and Children’s Services, which said they would contact the parties involved.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday to assist and agent with the Mahoning County Human Trafficking Task Force. Officers stood by in the area with the agent, but the subject they were waiting for never came.
–Officer responded to a residence on the 400 block of East Perry Street at 6:38 p.m. Tuesday for a runaway juvenile. While officers were speaking to the juvenile’s father they returned home.
–An officer responded to the 200 block of Madison Avenue at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday for a loud music complaint. Officer spoke with the resident who claimed they were not playing any music, officer informed them of the complaint.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 5:44 p.m. Tuesday for a domestic dispute. Officers attempted unsuccessfully to contact both parties. Officers were able to make contact with the caller and spoke with them
–Officers responded to a residence on the 400 block of Sharp Avenue at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer. Officers spoke with the resident who claimed her adult daughter had gained access to her bank account and taken money without permission. Residents just wanted the incident documented for the bank and the money back.
–Officers reported to the 400 block of North Madison Avenue at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday for a loud music complaint. Upon arrival no loud music was heard, officers spoke to the resident and advised them to keep the music down to a tolerable level.
–Officers responded to the area of Prospect Street and Sharp Avenue at 1:32 p.m. Monday for reports of a one vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival officers found the driver of the motorcycle to be injured and given medical attention by first responders. The motorcycle was traveling westbound of Prospect Street when he struck gravel causing him to strike the rear of the other vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was found to have a suspended driver’s license and was cited, the driver of the motorcycle was cited for assured clear distance. The driver of the motorcycle was later taken to the hospital by a friend.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 1:15 p.m. Monday for a hit and run. The caller claimed a white two-door sedan was seen backing out of a driveway and had hit the grounding wire to an electrical pole. The vehicle was unable to be located and officers contacted Ohio Edison to repair the electric issue.
–Officers responded to the 700 block of West Wilson Street at 12:53 p.m. Monday to assist Salem Fire Department with a medical call. The resident had attempted to harm themselves by taking an unknown number of pills. Officers located a neighbor to watch their child at the resident’s request. The resident was transported to the hospital for further treatment by KLG.
–Officers responded to an alley in the 200 block of North Union Avenue at 12:21 p.m. Monday for reports of a suspicious man in a blue shirt. Officers found nobody in the alley upon arrival. Officers spoke with a resident working near a back porch who had only seen their neighbor walking their dog which was not out of the ordinary. Officers spoke with the neighbor who was wearing a blue shirt. and confirmed he just walked the dog in the alley. Officers found nothing suspicious in the area.
–A black wallet was turned over to the police at 12:09 p.m. Monday, and was placed with the department’s recovered property.
–Officers spoke with an individual at the Police Department 10:48 a.m. Monday regarding a theft of property. After speaking to the individual, it was determined they couldn’t report the theft as the property had been gifted to another person, and that they would have to report the item stolen.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Seventh Street at 10:40 a.m. Monday with Salem Fire Department and EMT for a medical card. The resident had been heavily intoxicated and fallen inside his residence. The resident was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Eleventh Street at 8:34 a.m. Monday to locate a vehicle the caller owned and wanted back. The caller had let a man borrow the vehicle but now wanted it back. Officers spoke to the man and the caller retrieved the vehicle.
–Officers responded to the 2000 block of Lexington Avenue at 7:10 a.m. Monday for reports of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The caller claimed that they had allowed another person to borrow their vehicle for a few days but that they had not returned it on the agreed upon day. Officers spoke with the other individual who agreed to return the vehicle without further issue.
