Liverpool Township

— An officer arrived at 3:34 p.m. Friday at East Liverpool City Hospital to retrieve a prisoner named John Joy, who had been picked up by St. Clair police on two warrants (one from Columbiana County for a probation violation and the other from Jefferson County for failure to appear). After being advised by a St. Clair Township police officer that he was not free to go from the hospital after he was cleared by hospital personnel, the two township officers stood by outside waiting to see if Joy would attempt to run despite the warnings of an escape charge. After approximately 20 minutes, the Liverpool Township officer cleared the hospital to handle a pending call and shortly after, hospital personnel called to report Joy had fled the hospital and was seen running toward the Newell Bridge. A passerby informed the officer that he had seen a male with red gym shorts run by him on Fourth Street toward the Hot Dog Shoppe when he was outside. A check of that area didn’t produce Joy.
