Firefighters called for grease spill

SALEM –Firefighters were called at 2 p.m. Wednesday to Fresh Mark, 1735 S. Lincoln Ave., for a possible Hazmat/grease leak. A plant employee said an unknown amount of grease had entered a storm drain due to a pump malfunction.

The storm drain led to a nearby creek in which the grease was collecting. Plant personnel were in the process of cleaning up the spill and containing it with booms, pads and socks to absorb the grease. Firefighters walked the length of the creek, which was in Perry Township, and found the spill was contained between the drain pipe on Snyder Road and the culvert on the west side of South Lincoln Avenue. A cleanup crew was contacted by Fresh Mark as well as Perry Township Fire Department.
