County Sheriff

— Deputies responded to a Leetonia Road, Salem Township, facility at 8:13 a.m. Thursday after a patient placed his hands around a counselor’s neck and began to choke the counselor. It was believed the patient was suicidal and wanted the counselor to kill him. The patient was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

— Someone reported two people breaking into a vacant home on Carmel-Achor Road, Rogers at 9:56 a.m. Thursday. A backpack was found left behind containing suspected drugs, flashlights, gloves and an Ohio Direction card belonging to Travis Rhodes. The 29-year-old Rhodes was taken into custody later Thursday and charged with breaking and entering.

— A woman reported at 12:40 p.m. Thursday her husband came to their Alderlick Road, Wayne Township, home as they are going through a divorce and he wanted to retrieve belongings. She believed this could be a breech of court orders on paperwork. However, after deputies spoke with her, she said she did not have the paperwork. Deputies explained this is mutual property between spouses and one of the items taken, a vehicle, was registered to her husband. She was told to contact her attorney.

— A Mountz Road, Butler Township, man reported at 12:59 p.m. Thursday his ex-girlfriend, was refusing to leave him alone, repeatedly calling him. While the man was at the sheriff’s office, she called again and a deputy answered, telling her to stop calling. The ex-girlfriend claimed the man needs her, but deputies reiterated he wants nothing to do with her and she needs to leave him alone.

— A Tomahawk Lake resident reported at 2:15 p.m. Thursday her neighbor had his land surveyed and the surveyor made a mistake, telling him some of her land was his. She stated she and the neighbor have had tensions between them. Deputies told her to get her property surveyed if she believes an error was made and keep peace with the neighbor in the meantime.

— A Hunters Camp Road, Center Township, resident reported at 12:27 a.m. Thursday a family member came home from her boyfriend’s and appeared to have been assaulted. She denied the allegations, but told deputies she did not know what happened. She had bruises on her neck, and appeared she had been choked. Deputies reminded her no one has the right to put their hands on her and she signed a refusal to prosecute.

— Vandalism was reported at the old West Elementary School building in East Rochester at 3:38 a.m. Friday. A man reported he awoke after hearing the sound of glass breaking and found two windows were broken with two rocks inside his home. He reported he has had an ongoing problem with vandalism, possibly from children. Recently he found his vehicle windows had been egged.

— Deputies checked on a middle schooler from Union Ridge Road, Middleton Township, at 11:34 a.m. Thursday after Beaver Local reported they had not spoken with the mother nor the child about his schoolwork. Deputies contacted the mother and her son. She said they did not have electric for several days and her phone was acting up. Deputies reminded her she needs to make sure her son completes his schoolwork.

— A state Route 517, Fairfield Township, man reported at 1:42 p.m. Thursday he went through a divorce and his ex-wife was ordered to give him a Taurus Judge firearm, but now she claims she does not have it. He did not have the serial number for the firearm. Deputies told him to follow up with his attorney.

— Deputies went to a private property accident on Madison Drive in Madison Township at 7:24 p.m. Thursday.

— A resident on Bell Road, Elkrun Township, reported at 12:23 a.m. Thursday they heard someone yelling for help. Deputies checked the areas of Fairfield School and Bell roads, but did not find anyone.

— A Leetonia Road homeowner reported at 2:33 a.m. Thursday someone was banging on the outside door to the house. Deputies checked the area, but found no one and found no fresh prints in the snow.

Lisbon

— Police were called to a home on East Lincoln Way where a woman was having chest pains at 6 a.m. Monday.

— A Pritchard Avenue man reported Monday a man he knows was making threats on Facebook about contacting the IRS to ensure he did not receive his federal stimulus check. Police told him they could not stop someone from calling the IRS and he was advised to remove the man from his Facebook page.

— A woman who lives on East Lincoln Way reported Tuesday her neighbor has been harassing her. Police spoke with the neighbor, who agreed to stay away from her.

— A caller reported a man on North Market Street was engaging in open burning at 1:26 p.m. Wednesday. Police determined the man was burning his grass clippings and had water on hand, but he extinguished the fire.

Leetonia

— A 12-year-old Center Street juvenile reported at 11:57 p.m. Wednesday her mother had left her and her 11-year-old stepsister home alone since 6:30 p.m. that day to go to a man’s house. The juvenile said she did not know the man’s last name or where he lived and that her mother sounded drunk when she called her several times. The juvenile’s grandfather arrived from Salem to pick the children up and the juvenile’s father was to come from Columbus to pick the children up the next day.

— An officer responded to the 400 block of Columbia Street at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in reference to an abandoned vehicle on the side of the roadway. Upon arrival, the officer met with a towing company and provided an inventory sheet.

Salem

— Police were called at 2:41 a.m. Friday to the 900 block of West Pershing Street for a complaint of loud persons. A caller said several juveniles were running around outside and slamming doors. No one was located outside or in the area. Police had been called to the same residence at 2:05 a.m. for a verbal dispute between two males, who were intoxicated and said nothing physical occurred. They were told to stay separated.

— A suspicious vehicle was reported at 7:01 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Ohio Avenue where a caller said a vehicle with three males inside was parked in a parking lot and the men were staring at her house. They said they were waiting for a friend, then left.

— A man in the 500 block of North Howard Avenue reported at 5:27 p.m. Thursday that a known female showed up and began to create a disturbance. She left before police arrived and he wanted her told she’s not allowed back at the residence. Officers were unable to make contact with her.

— A line was reported down on East 11th Street at 3:40 p.m. Thursday after a large truck struck a low wire over the street from a home, bringing the line down. Fire personnel removed the line and Perry Township was notified.

— A concerned citizen at 11:11 a.m. Thursday dropped off a change purse with coins and five needles inside. The contraband was destroyed and the purse placed in the lost and found.

— A citizen at 10:23 a.m. Thursday asked police if a vehicle could be parked on the street if it wasn’t registered. Due to COVID-19 issues and BMVs being closed, he was told it would be all right for now, but he was told to get the vehicle registered as soon as possible once the BMV reopens.

— Lines were reported in the road in the 800 block of East Third Street at 7:01 a.m. Thursday. Officers and fire personnel were able to get the road cleared.

— A reckless driver was reported at 6:12 a.m. Thursday on East State Street and South Ellsworth Avenue. Police found the vehicle but saw no violations.
