County Sheriff

— A Salem-Alliance Road, Butler Township, man reported his neighbor’s chickens were running loose, are continuously coming onto his property and eating his dog’s food. Deputies went to speak with the believed owner of the chickens, who said they actually belong to another man. Deputies explained to the man about the complaint and he agreed to secure the chickens inside a coop.

— A man reported at 10:29 a.m. Monday someone has been driving off the road and into the grass at the Jehovah Witness Church on Hunters Camp Road, Center Township. Deputies found there were multiple ruts in the yard and it appeared it was either more than one vehicle or they were there due to intentional acts by a single vehicle on multiple occasions. The ruts were also near a vertical gas line pipe.

Highway Patrol

— Zachary C. Foster, 25, of Austintown, was cited for assured clear distance when he was towing another vehicle and struck a bridge with the vehicle in tow on state Route 11 in Elkrun Township at 10:14 p.m. Saturday. He was driving for Carl’s Towing in Austintown. There was no damage to the bridge.

Salem

— Adam D. Doud, 39, of Canton, was cited for OVI, failure to control and leaving the scene after he wrecked his vehicle on East 10th Street at 10:41 p.m. Saturday. Doud’s Malibu reportedly went off of the road, up an embankment and struck a tree before rolling over onto the roof. Witnesses described the driver leaving the scene as wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black shorts, and police used the canine unit to track Doud down on East Ninth Street. He tested 0.246 on the breathalyzer, three times the legal limit. Doud had visible facial injuries but declined medical treatment. A passenger was not injured.

— Taylor West, 22, whose last known address was Quincy Avenue, Columbiana, was charged with criminal trespass and taken to jail after officers responded at 8:13 p.m. Monday to the 200 block of Vine Avenue to check a vacant apartment that had people living inside. Officers checked the rear of the apartment and found a woman standing in the back attempting to hide behind a fence. She had items inside the vacant apartment and the rear door was open.

— A theft was reported at 7:43 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Vine Avenue. The victim said who she believed did the theft, but later said she did not want to pursue charges.

— Police responded to Dunkin’ Donuts, 2823 E. State St., at 7:26 p.m. Monday for a person to be removed. The male said he was unaware he was not allowed in the business. Officers gave him a warning and said he’s not allowed at this location and also reminded him that he’s not allowed at the location on West State Street either.

— A domestic was reported at 5:15 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue where police found a fight in progress and it was reported weapons were involved. Officers secured the scene and Salem Police and Columbiana County Drug Task Force detectives served a search warrant on the premises. The case is still under investigation. This was the same area where police were investigating a shots fired complaint from Saturday.

— A 911 hangup call was reported in the 600 block of Newgarden Avenue at 5:04 p.m. Monday. Police discovered a juvenile playing with a cell phone accidentally hit the emergency button.

— A caller at 4:47 p.m. Monday reported a male walking and yelling profanities to himself in the area of East Pershing and South Union Avenue. Police made contact and did not see anything suspicious. Everything was ok.

— An unattended child was reported at 4:22 p.m. Monday in the area of South Lundy and Columbia. Officers made contact with the mother who was in sight of the child but was unaware the child went on the road. She was told to be more aware when the children are by the road.

— A woman retrieved a loose dog on West Pershing Street and brought it to the police station at 2:27 p.m. Monday. An officer spoke to the owner who recovered the dog.

— A Salem woman spoke with officers Monday about possible abuse towards her children.

— Police responded at 12:23 p.m. Monday to the Ventra parking lot on Pennsylvania Avenue where a vehicle driven by a Boardman woman and parked in the lot was allegedly struck by a blue pickup at 6:30 a.m. according to a witness. The vehicle, a Buick Regal, sustained damage. The hit/skip incident is under investigation.

— A woman in the 500 block of Newgarden Avenue reported at 11:50 a.m. Monday that a bush in her back yard was destroyed. Officers observed tire marks leading into the back yard where it appeared to be from a vehicle backing up from the neighbor’s house. The woman said it occurred between 2 and 6 a.m. Monday. Officers observed that the bush appeared dead long before this time since it was already starting to rot.

— Possible suspicious activity was reported at 10:04 a.m. Monday in the 500 block of East Third Street. A man who reported it at the police station was told to call police if he saw anything.

Perry Township

— A woman from the 200 block of Plymouth Place reported at 2:20 p.m. Monday that the rear driver’s side tire on her Jeep was slashed.

— Police on Monday spoke with a resident concerning child abuse while her children are visiting their father. She also filed a report with the city of Salem.

— A woman on Prospect Street reported at 11:40 a.m. Monday that her 16-year-old granddaughter was being unruly, saying she took her to the doctor’s office and she was acting up to the point they were going to be asked to leave. An officer spoke with the granddaughter.

— Shonte Pipkin, 22, of South Howard Avenue, was cited for driving under suspension after a minor accident in the area of West State Street at 6:24 p.m. Sunday. She said she had rear-ended the car in front of her, but officers did not see any damage to that car. Her vehicle sustained minor damage. A valid driver removed her car from the road.

— Township police at 5:28 p.m. Sunday assisted Salem police with a harassment report due to them being held up on calls. A woman in the 200 block of West Wilson Street reported that she honked her horn for her husband to come out of the house and two juveniles walking by made a remark towards her. Both parties were told to go their separate ways for the night.

— A woman on Andrew Avenue reported at 3:51 p.m. Sunday that someone keyed her car between the time of the report and Thursday of last week.

— The patrol asked Perry Township at 4:41 a.m. Sunday to check for a tree down in the road that fell on a car on Carey Road. Police found a large tree crossing the entire roadway. The appropriate road crew was called.

— Sparks were reported coming from electric wires on the bypass at West Pidgeon Road at 3:56 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, nearby trees were on fire, with the township fire department requested at the scene. Ohio Edison was also called for the wires. The fire extinguished itself.

— A tree was reported down on Egypt Road at 3:32 a.m. Sunday, but police did not find it.

— A protection order violation was reported at 9:42 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Depot Road where a resident reported her neighbor violated his protection order because he had been yelling derogatory remarks at them earlier in the day. When asked if they had proof of the violation, they did not. They were told to notify police if the issues continue.

— Freddie Elkins Jr., 48, of Alliance, was cited for driving under suspension, fictitious plates, two headlights required, and possession of marijuana after a traffic stop at 6:38 p.m. Saturday on state Route 45 near state Route 9. The vehicle was towed.

— Karla Calvinoaks, 53, of East Rochester, was cited for driving under suspension after police came upon a disabled vehicle at 5:06 p.m. Saturday on Cunningham Road near state Route 344. She claimed to have driving privileges but had no paperwork from the courts. The vehicle was towed.

— Police spoke with a caller from the Blossom Nursing Home at 2:45 p.m. Saturday regarding a suspicious person entering the residential facility who was no longer allowed on the property. The person was located and served with a trespass notice and told if they return, they’ll be arrested.

— Police were called at 11:26 a.m. Saturday for suspicious persons walking down West State Street near Georgetown Road. Police had already made contact with the person inside the city limits. The woman said she was walking to a friend’s house.

— A man on Georgetown Road spoke to police at 10:15 a.m. Saturday regarding threats made via text message. He did not want to pursue charges but wanted no further contact with the person. The other party told police threats were made on both sides but they also did not want to pursue charges. Both were told to avoid further contact and block each other’s phone numbers.

— Police were called at 9 a.m. Saturday to the 1300 block of Elberon Avenue for a report of harassment, with a woman saying her ex-boyfriend would not leave her alone and was constantly calling and showing up at her place of employment. She was told to block the person on all social media and her phone. A message was left for the ex-boyfriend to contact police.

— A man was reported walking in the road at 2:21 a.m. Saturday on state Route 45 near the golf club. He told police he was on his way home from Circle K South and lived just up the road.

— Police responded to the Fresh Mark parking lot in the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 6:36 p.m. Friday for an intoxicated male. He was sitting in his vehicle and a cab was called and took him home. Security said the car could be left in the lot overnight. Police had been called at 5:30 p.m. Friday for a drunken person walking down the road in the 1700 block, but did not locate anyone.

— Courtney Hill, 30, of East Liverpool, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after her southbound vehicle struck the rear of another southbound vehicle driven by Bonnie Kendall, 50, in the 1800 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:56 p.m. Friday. No injuries were reported.

— Terriann McFarland, 54, of Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after her northbound vehicle struck the rear of a northbound vehicle driven by Raquel Mullen, 30, of Columbiana, in the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 1:22 p.m. Friday. Mullen was injured and taken to Salem Regional Medical Center for an evaluation.
