Police

County Sheriff

— Deputies were called to a neighbor dispute at 10578 Rochester Road, West Township, at 2:50 p.m. Monday. The couple who live in the one trailer said they found vulgar words written on the back side of a large screen TV sitting in the yard facing their domicile. A deputy spoke with the man in the other trailer and he said the male half of the couple owes him $300. He admitted yelling at them and spray-painting the vulgar message but he has since covered it up. Deputies advised him this was a civil dispute and to leave the couple alone.

Highway Patrol

— Rebecca S. McNicol, 47, of East Liverpool, was driving a Wellsville Local School District bus when she drove off the side of Crawford Road in Yellow Creek Township and struck an elevated private driveway at 3:40 p.m. Thursday. McNicol drove to a safe location to call EMS. Six students had minor injuries.

— Paige E. Morrison, 18, of Salem, was cited for failure to control when she drove off the side of Darner Road in Elkrun Township and struck a ditch at 7:36 a.m. Friday.

— Alexis D. Gibbs, 18, of New Waterford, was cited for failure to control when she drove off the side of Y and O Road in Madison Township and struck a sign at 12:04 p.m. Friday.

— Abby L. Aegerter, 37, of Hanoverton, struck a deer on state Route 172 in Center Township at 7:17 p.m. Friday.

— Derek L. Brown, 31, of Kensington, was cited for failure to control when he traveled off the side of state Route 9 in Hanover Township and struck a utility pole at 8:09 p.m. Friday.

— Ashlea A. Grimes, 18, of Negley, was cited for failure to control when she traveled off the side of state Route 170 and struck an embankment at 6:43 p.m. Sunday. Grimes said she swerved to avoid a deer.

— Mark R. Brothers, 59, of Columbiana, was cited for failure to control when he traveled off the side of Columbiana-Waterford Road in Fairfield Township and overturned at 12:51 p.m. Dec. 18. He was treated for minor injuries.

Lisbon

— Police were called to an apartment house on East Chestnut Street at 1:10 a.m. Monday because a woman there was having a seizure. Police remained until an ambulance arrived to transport her to a local hospital.

— A resident called at 2:47 a.m. Monday to say a Lisbon man he knows was on his way home from East Liverpool but had become lost for over an hour somewhere south of town on state Route 45. Police went to the village border of Route 45 and waited but the man did not appear. The resident called back to say to check the local gas stations, but the man was not there. Police then went to the man’s home in town, where they found him there. The man told him he had arrived a little while ago and did not know his friend had called them.

— A Mattix Road man called at 1:31 p.m. Monday to say he was in town to pick up his kids per the schedule given him but he was unsuccessful.

Columbiana

— Brian Pearl, 50, of Salineville, was cited for open container following a traffic stop on West Friend Street at1:22 p.m. Monday.

Salineville

— On Dec. 16, officers were flagged down by a resident regarding illegal dumping of trash on his property. An investigation was conducted and Nathaniel Michael Gordon, who denied residing at 5 Sycamore St., was issued a littering citation.

— On Dec. 20, officers assisted the county dog warden’s office at 406 Water St. to check on the well-being of several dogs that may have been neglected or abused.

— On Dec. 21, Randy Hooper was pulled over for a traffic stop at West Main Street and state Route 39. Hooper was cited driving under suspension.

— On Dec. 22, officers were made aware of a theft that occurred on West Main Street. The investigation is ongoing.

— On Dec. 22, officers were sent to an East Main Street address for a man who was possibly in the process of slitting his wrists. Officers made contact with the man and no cuts were seen anywhere on his body nor were there any sign of harm. The man also denied making any statements of that nature.

Leetonia

— An officer responded to a High Street home at 9:43 p.m. Dec. 19 in reference to an unruly juvenile. The resident reported her son was throwing items and calling household members name, scaring the younger children. The resident said her son was on medications and was advised to find a facility that would help assess the needed levels.

— An officer responded to a Vine Street home at 10:49 a.m. Saturday where the resident reported tires on his vehicle had been slashed. The resident said he had been in altercation with a co-worker the previous day and that the co-worker might be responsible.

— Heather Lea Prusky, 27, Warren, was arrested on an active warrant out of the Canfield Police Department for failure to appear for a traffic violation following a traffic stop for speed on state Route 344 near Water Street at 2:40 p.m. Saturday.

— Chelsea Woods, 26, Oak Street, Leetonia, was cited for driving under suspension and criminal mischief after she and a male individual arrived on station at 1:04 p.m. Sunday regarding a domestic dispute that occurred during a child custody exchange at their home. The individuals were separated, at which time Woods claimed the male had struck her in face during the exchange and she followed him outside and slashed the tire of a vehicle he had rented, then followed him to the police station. An officer did not observe any marks suggesting Woods had been struck and an investigation showed she had slashed the male’s tire and followed him to the station.

— An officer responded to the area of the railroad tracks on Chestnut Street at 4:07 p.m. Sunday in reference to juveniles at the bridge across from the Dairy Queen on Columbia Street. Two of the boys identified themselves and were picked up. The third was transported to the police station where his mother responded after hearing he had been taken there. She was advised of the dangers of playing near the train tracks.

— An officer responded to a 100 block Walnut Street home at 10:34 p.m. Sunday to check the welfare of juvenile and found the juvenile to be fine. During the welfare check the juvenile’s grandfather was aggressive and questioned why the officer was at the home and how to retrieve a record of the call. The grandfather was advised to stop by the station to get a copy.

— An officer responded to a possible crash on state Route 344 at the overpass at 3:52 a.m. Monday and found that a driver had swerved to miss a deer and traveled off the roadway. The vehicle was towed back onto the roadway and the driver was able to drive away from the scene. No citation was issued.

— An individual reported at 2:26 p.m. Monday a garbage truck driver had pushed a dumpster attached to the truck on the ground, causing damage to the roadway at Stoy and Spruce streets. Officers photographed the damage.

Salem

— Police responded at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday to the 900 block of Park Avenue for a medical issue involving an elderly female. Officers found she appeared to have an altered mental state and she was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by KLG. A relative was notified.

— A caller at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday reported a suspicious person in the 500 block of East State Street where a male was reported to look intoxicated. Officers spoke to the male who said he was not intoxicated but returning home for the evening. A consented search was conducted, but no illegal items were found on him. He was sent on his way home after no suspicious activity was found.

— A man in the 700 block of West Wilson Street reported at 11:08 p.m. Monday that he located a wallet and car keys while walking through his back yard. Police made contact with the owner and returned the items.

— Heather Ann Young, 33, of 286 W. Wayne St., Alliance, was taken into custody on a warrant out of Stark County for aggravated trafficking in drugs and handed over to an Alliance Police officer at a meet location for the warrant after police responded to the 1600 block of Southeast Boulevard to look for her. Salem Police were checking for her at the residence and saw through a window that she was sitting on a couch. Contact was made and she was taken into custody. While inside, officers observed suspected drug paraphernalia in plain sight where the female had been seated. Officers then searched the couch, where a large amount of suspected narcotics were recovered along with other drug paraphernalia. The items were seized and a consent to search was filled out by the homeowner. Officers searched the bedroom where the female had been sleeping and other contraband was recovered. A warrant will be issued through Columbiana County with additional charges pending lab results on the items confiscated.

— Police responded at 7:34 p.m. Monday to the 300 block of West Seventh Street for a 911 hang up call. Before police arrived, dispatch made contact with the caller who advised thinking the next door neighbor’s home was on fire because of steam coming from the dryer vent. The call was cancelled.

— A suspicious vehicle was reported driving slowly down Tanglewood Drive in the 2300 block at 7:20 p.m. Monday. The vehicle was gone before police arrived.

— An intoxicated driver was reported in a white Chevy truck going left of center in the area of North Ellsworth and East Third Street at 6:52 p.m. Monday. The vehicle was not located.

— A loud explosion was reported in the area of West Fifth Street at 6:44 p.m. Monday. Officers arrived and could hear what sounded like fireworks but could not locate the source. Police checked the area and the noises stopped.

— A vehicle was found illegally parked in the street in the 800 block of Southeast Boulevard at 6:26 p.m. Monday. The owner was contacted and the vehicle was moved.

— A woman on North Ellsworth Avenue reported at 6:19 p.m. Monday that her ex-boyfriend, who is the father of her daughter, has been text messaging her phone relentlessly and calling multiple times. She didn’t want to speak to him and did not want him coming to her residence. Officers made contact with him and told him to cease contact and not go to her home. He said he understood.

— A suspicious person was reported at 5:10 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of East State Street. Police told the person to go home and stop bothering people.

— Mary Kiehl, 35, of 37630 state Route 558, Leetonia, was charged with theft and taken to jail after police were called to Walmart, 2875 E. State St., at 4:55 p.m. Monday for a shoplifter. The report said the person was seen on video placing multiple items in the cart without scanning them, with $344 worth of merchandise taken past all points of sale without paying for them.

— A reckless driver was reported at 3:53 p.m. Monday on Continental Drive, almost striking another vehicle. The reckless vehicle was not found.

— A runaway juvenile was reported at 3:13 p.m. Monday from a home in the 1400 block of East State Street. A woman at the residence and a counselor said the female juvenile who left without permission just returned back to the residence. The officer was told about the juvenile’s recent aggressive behavior towards other household members and unruly attitude. The officer spoke to the girl about the consequences of her actions. While leaving, the officer was told that another juvenile was reporting being pushed by the girl. The report said the juvenile had pushed another female juvenile who got close to her after she had been calling her names. All parties were told to separate for the evening and keep to themselves.

— A man in the 700 block of East Third Street reported at 2:16 p.m. Monday that on Friday, Dec. 20, his wife caught two people attempting to gain access to his vehicles parked on his property, but they ran away. He said there’s a lot of foot traffic in his area and apparent other illegal activities.

— A Salem man reported at 2:07 p.m. Monday that while his Dodge vehicle was parked at Sparkle Market on South Lundy Avenue, an unknown driver in a white car backed up and struck its right rear side. He said his rear doors are now hard to open. A license plate was provided for the unknown vehicle, but turned out to be incorrect.

— An abandoned bicycle was found on Rose Avenue at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

— A man from a store in the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue reported at 11:56 a.m. Monday that a person cashed a check on Dec. 19 and it came back as fraudulent. He wanted it documented and for police to contact the person. A message was left and the matter will be sent to the prosecutor.

— A clerk at Smith Oil in the 900 block of East State Street reported at 11:48 a.m. Monday that someone in a black SUV left without paying for $26.71 worth of gas.

— Police were dispatched at 11:32 a.m. Monday to McDonald’s restaurant on East State Street for a medical issue involving an elderly male who was confused. Officers stood by with first responders and he was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT.

— A woman in the 800 block of East Sixth Street reported at 10:24 a.m. Monday that several items were stolen from inside her detached garage a few weeks ago, including an older larger television, a hover board, a bicycle, new lunch bag and a luggage-style bag.

— Police checked the well-being of a male in the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:28 a.m. Monday. He said he was fine.

— A hit-skip accident was reported at 4:36 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot near the Walmart automotive center in the 2800 block of East State Street. A legally parked Chevy Silverado owned by a Salem man was struck from behind by an unidentified red Jeep Grand Cherokee, causing damage. A witness reported the driver of the Jeep exited the vehicle to check for damage and then fled the area. The report said surveillance video was being checked in an attempt to identify the vehicle involved.
