Highway Patrol

— Four vehicles were traveling northwest bound on state Route 165 in Unity Township at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday. The first vehicle in the line, driven by Jacob Thomas Beaumont, 25, Darlington, Pa., lost control and went off the right side of the road, striking a ditch. The vehicle behind Beaumont, driven by James W. Hall, 20, McClure Road, East Palestine, also failed to maintain control and went off the right side of the road, striking the back of Beaumont’s vehicle. The third vehicle, driven by Brent J. Kelley, 47, Poland, began to lose control and was struck in the side by the fourth vehicle, driven by Clare Louise Murdock, 42, state Route 14, East Palestine. The impact sent both vehicles also off the right side of the road and into the ditch. No injuries were reported and due to the inclement weather, no citations were issued. The road was closed for about two hours.

— Dennis Lamar Neuenschwander, 56, Lower Elkton Road, Leetonia, was northbound on state Route 164, in Fairfield Township, at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday, when he lost control, went across the center line and off the left side of the road, striking a ditch before coming to rest in a field. He was cited with failure to control and was uninjured.

— Lori Lynn Rice, 53, Stoy Street, Leetonia, and Ariana Marie Rodi, 18, New England Square, New Waterford, were both traveling northeast on state Route 344 in Fairfield Township at 5:52 p.m. Friday. Rice stopped in traffic and was struck from behind by Rodi, who was cited with assured clear distance. No injuries were reported.

— Brooke N. Caddell, 25, Freeman Road, Lisbon, was southbound on state Route 164 in Center Township at 8:15 a.m. Friday when she was struck by a deer crossing the roadway. No injury was reported.

— Brent Dee Christian, 56, Elmore City, Okla., was making a right turn to continue westbound on U.S. Route 30 at the intersection with state Route 644 in Hanover Township, when a utility pole on the north side of the roadway was struck, damaging both the pole and the skid house cargo on the trailer, but not the trailer itself. Christian was cited with failure to control.

Salem

— A Rose Avenue woman reported menacing at 10:44 a.m. Sunday, but police determined it was a civil matter and gave her the options for dealing with the situation.

— A 911 hang up call at 10:59 a.m. Sunday was found to be a child playing with a phone in the 700 block of Superior Avenue.

— Smith Oil reported at 11:27 a.m. Sunday someone in a gray Ford truck drove off without paying for $5 in gas.

— An East Third Street man reported at 11:46 a.m. Sunday, someone stole packages delivered by Amazon to a home in the 800 block.

— Someone reported the ground beneath a storm drain grate on East Third Street had fallen away and created a hazard. Police checked the situation and told dispatchers to contact the city department to place up barricades until the situation could be repaired.

— A parking complaint made at 12:45 p.m. Sunday on South Union Avenue will be looked at by consulting with the zoning department.

— A parking complaint in the 400 block of Columbia Street was made at 5:12 p.m. Saturday. It was determined a vehicle was parked within 10 feet of a fire hydrant. Police located the vehicle and the vehicle’s owner, who agreed to move it.

— A silver Buick was reported parking in the 100 block of South Broadway, running and unattended at 5:40 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.

— A South Lincoln Avenue woman reported at 7:27 p.m. Saturday there was a suspicious vehicle parked in her driveway and she did not know the people inside. The vehicle left before police arrived, but the area was checked.

— A plumber working at a Franklin Street address at 8:43 p.m. Saturday said the person there refused to pay for services after the job was completed at the house. It was found to be a misunderstanding and the plumber was paid.

— A domestic dispute was reported at a Washington Avenue home at 11:18 p.m. Saturday. It was found to have been an argument after the mother came home to find her son had allowed a woman to stay at the house with him. It was determined the son and the woman had been staying there for a month. Police explained the mother’s options for handling the incident.

— Police spoke with a man walking northbound on Depot Road at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. He was elderly and appeared extremely confused. Both the Salem Fire Department and KLG were called and he was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center. Through the sheriff’s office, the man’s family were notified.

— A possible prowler was reported in the area of North Ellsworth Avenue and East Fifth Street at 7:48 a.m. Saturday. A car alarm was going off and it was believed someone may have been trying to break into vehicles. No one was found.

— A pill was reported lost while attempting to give it to a patient at the 1985 East Pershing Street at 7:05 a.m. Saturday.

— An intoxicated person was reported in the store at 175 W. State St. at 1:11 a.m. Saturday. The man was waiting for a ride from Rogers. Police let the person wait for his ride in the lobby of the police department.

— A West Wilson Street woman reported at 12:46 a.m. Saturday she wanted her ex-boyfriend removed, because he was behind her home making threats. The man was visibly intoxicated and ordered to leave the property. He was later picked up at the police department by a family member.

— A Rose Avenue woman reported at 12:26 a.m. Saturday, her boyfriend’s family was at her home trying to change the locks on the house. Police informed them the resident did not want them to be there and did not want the locks changed. Police waited while one of the locks was changed back and reminded them not to return.

— A domestic dispute was reported at 12:05 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 700 block of East Fifth Street. A woman, who had a bloody face and injury to her nose and mouth, reported her boyfriend punched here three or four times before fleeing the house driving a red Chevy Impala. The Salem Fire Department and KLG responded to tend to the woman and she was later transported to Salem Regional Medical Center. The man was found by St. Clair Township police at a family member’s home. Jason Naylor, 33, East Fifth Street, was charged with domestic violence and taken to the county jail.

— Two people walking in the area of Sparkle reported at 11:30 p.m. Friday a man they did not know had began chasing them. They were going to continue walking home, while police checked the area. Then one of them flagged police down again to say they saw him again and he had chased them a second time. Police did not find anyone in the area.

— An intoxicated man was reported pole dancing on a light post at the intersection of East Pershing Street and Penn Avenue at 11:03 p.m. Friday. He also was reported chasing cars down the roadway. He was offered a ride home due to his level of intoxication, but he refused to get into the car. Jonathon J. Castelucci, 40, North Lincoln Avenue, was charged with disorderly conduct for public intoxication and transported to the county jail.

— A domestic dispute was reported at a Rose Avenue home at 10:15 p.m. Friday. A woman with a large lump on her cheek and visibly upset met police and said she and her live-in boyfriend got into an argument on the way home from a Christmas party. She said he punched her several times in the face while she was riding in the passenger seat of the vehicle he was driving. Due to the severe injury to her face, the woman was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT Ambulance. Jacob E. Andrews was charged with domestic violence and transported to the county jail.

— Police stopped a vehicle and the driver, Sarah L. Best, 36, Canton, was found to have a suspended license. K-9 Argo checked the vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics. The vehicle was searched and a marijuana cigarette was found. Best was cited with both driving under suspension and marijuana possession.

— A parking complaint was reported at 8:57 p.m. Friday in the area of East State Street and Rose Avenue, where a trailer was reported parked on the roadway and difficult to see due to the fog. Police found the trailer was parked under a street light and not a hazard.

— A couch next to a dumpster was on fire in the area of Vine Avenue at 7:36 p.m. Friday, which prompted the Salem Fire Department to respond and extinguish it. A few people in the area were questioned, but no one said they saw who lit it.

— A burglary was reported at 7:18 p.m. Friday at a home in the 900 block of Fair Avenue. The couple living at the home had been at a basketball game and returned to find their home burglarized. The window of the back door was broken. Money and jewelry were stolen from the home.

— A neighbor dispute was reported at 6:29 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of East Pershing Street. The women argued after trash was placed out by the curb. No threats were made, but the two were told to stay away from each other.

— A semi truck was reported parked on the tracks at 2:48 p.m. Friday. Police arrived, but did not find the semi.

— An intoxicated man wearing a gray sweatshirt and a red hat was reported at 2:09 p.m. Friday. Police found him, but he was determined not to be intoxicated.

— Michelle Dillinger, 51, Goshen Road, was westbound on East State Street at 1:29 p.m. Friday and merging left in the straight through lane, but said she did not see the white Kia driven by Kelly Morris, 55, Alliance, who was beside her in the straight lane. The mirror of Dillinger’s vehicle caused a black mark down the side of the Kia. No citations were issued.

— A dispute was reported on Continental Drive at 11:49 a.m. Friday. A man said he was using the Wi-fi in the parking lot of an apartment complex, parked in front of the apartment of a man he knows, when a couple came out and started yelling at him for being in the lot all the time when he does not live there. Police explained it may be best if he came to visit friends and not just to use the Wi-fi.

— A woman was reported inside a vacant apartment on Vine Avenue at 11:08 a.m. Friday. The woman told police she used to live there, but had moved out due to a problem in the apartment. She had moved to another apartment in the building and then moved back into this one after speaking with the landlord.

— Smith Oil reported at 10:45 a.m. Friday someone in a black Ford truck pumped nearly $59 in gas and left eastbound without paying. No vehicle matching the description was found.

— A man in a black vehicle was reported taking photos of houses in the area of Southeast Boulevard at 9:58 a.m. Friday. Police checked the area, but did not find him.

— A Tanglewood Drive woman reported someone making threats at 8:58 a.m. Friday. The person making the alleged threats was not there and police told the woman her options.

— Police responded to a North Ellsworth Avenue home at 8:42 a.m. Friday, where a man was reported brandishing a gun. Police found everything was fine at the house.

— Police stopped a vehicle on South Ellsworth Avenue near the railroad crossing at 12:51 a.m. Friday. K-9 Simon indicated the presence of narcotics. The driver, Dustin Reed Wright, 22, Berry Road, Kensington, was cited with possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
