— The fire department responded to an 800 block East Fifth Street home at noon Friday in reference to a cooking fire. Firefighters found the stove pulled away from the wall with fire damage to the appliance and surrounding cabinets. The resident said he had been boiling water and left it unattended for approximately 6 minutes before smelling smoke and finding the stove and cabinets on fire. The resident said he got his family out of the home and extinguished the fire, then began cleaning up before calling the fire department. The pot in question was not observed on scene and an investigation revealed no cause for the fire.
