POLICE

County Sheriff

–A deputy attempted to contact Tay Rathbone, Bentwood Drive, Unity Township, several times on Friday after she called earlier in the day about a property dispute.

Columbiana

–Darren M. Koplen, 48, of Irondale, struck a deer while driving on Heck Road near the Baptist Church at 3:22 a.m. Thursday.

–Charles Richardson of Columbiana was cited for driving under suspension following a traffic stop on South Elm Street at 6:41 p.m. Friday.

–Police were called to a home at 153 Apache Lane at 3:56 a.m. Friday to speak with a person there about some family issues. Police later spoke with the same man and family members and found everything to be OK.

East Palestine

–Police tried to make a traffic stop on South Market Street at 5:58 p.m. Thursday but the vehicle darted into the McDonald’s parking lot behind the drive-thru. The female passenger exited the vehicle and took off toward the restaurant. The woman — Mindy R. Boughamer, 37, — was located later by officers and taken into custody after having learning she had an arrest warrant for her out of Trumbull County.

–Police were called to Park Drive at 3:51 p.m. Thursday to take a report from Carl L. Kline about damage to a vehicle.

Lisbon

–Charles E. Weyand Jr., 42, state Route 154, was cited Thursday under the village’s noxious odor ordinance for refusing to clean up the trash in his yard after being told to do so multiple times over the past four months. There are still about 15 bags of garbage next to the side porch and behind the house. Weyand was also cited for violating the boat ordinance by having a boat sitting in his front yard for the past 48 hours. The boat has been sitting there for some time, and Weyand was initially cited on Dec. 20, and at some point covered it with a tarp.

— A newspaper delivery person reported there was van parked in the Rite Aid lot with the lights on at 2:54 a.m. Friday and there was no activity. Police arrived to find the van parked very close to the front doors but not in a parking spot. The officer spoke with the driver, identified as Paul Palumbo, who said he works there and is responsible for cleaning the store. When told the store does not open until 6 a.m., Palumbo said he waits for an employee to show up to let him in. Police asked Palumbo to just stay in the police department parking lot until the store opens and he agreed.

Salineville

–While on patrol at 2:30 p.m. Friday, an officer saw Jonathan White walking along East Main Street. There was an arrest warrant for White out of East Liverpool and he was taken into custody and transported to the East Liverpool Police Department.

Salem

— Tammra L. Smith, 47, Columbia Street, Salem, was cited for failure to yield at an intersection following a two-vehicle crash at 9:20 a.m. Thursday in which she attempted to turn north from Columbia Street onto South Lincoln Avenue, striking a northbound vehicle driven by Shirley M. Martin, 79, Columbiana. No injuries were reported.

— Officers responded to a report of a medical emergency at a 300 Vine Avenue home at 1:28 p.m. Thursday and found the person in question sitting in his vehicle. The man was transported by ambulance to a local emergency room.

— Officers responded to a 2300 block Oak Street home at 2:22 p.m. Thursday where the resident wanted a woman removed. There was prior history of the resident and the woman not getting along, and the male resident was not home to allow the woman entrance. The woman agreed to leave without incident.

— Officers responded to an 1100 block South Lincoln Avenue apartment to check on a female resident at 4:17 p.m. Thursday after someone reported they had not heard from her in several days. Officers were unable to find the resident at home, but she was later located and found to be okay.

— Officers responded to a 700 block Southeast Boulevard home at 6:30 p.m. Thursday where the resident reported a family member had possibly sexually assaulted her juvenile son. Officers spoke with the individual who made the allegations, and he said he observed several incidents in which the suspect inappropriately touched the minor. The mother was advised to have her son checked at a hospital and the matter was turned over to the detective bureau and children services.

— Police responded to a 600 block South Ellsworth Avenue business at 7:11 p.m. Thursday in reference to a fire alarm and found that someone had burned popcorn. Officers stood by until the fire department cleared the scene.

— An officer responded to a 200 block West Pershing Street home at 7:52 p.m. Thursday where the resident reported her ex, against whom she has a protection order, was messaging her on social media as well as speaking to her children in front of the home, which is also prohibited in the protection order. Officers were unable to find the woman’s ex, but charges are pending.

— David J. Gbur, 62, Vine Avenue, Salem, was cited for operating a vehicle intoxicated at 8:06 p.m. Thursday following a traffic stop in the 400 block of East Pershing Street after someone reported a possible intoxicated driver in the area of South Broadway Avenue.

— Officers responded to a 100 block of Ohio Avenue at 9:34 p.m. Thursday to locate a person involved in a protection order violation and found an open door and signs that suggested the home had been broken into. Officers were unable to find anyone inside the home, so they secured the door before clearing the scene.

— William A. Wilson, 61, Cunningham Road, Salem, was charged with misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and resisting arrests after officers responded with Perry Township police to a fight at a 400 block South Broadway Avenue business and found him in an altercation. Wilson reportedly refused to listen to officers’ commands and resisted arrest. The matter has been turned over to the detective’s bureau for further investigation.

— Brent L. Baddeley, 52, Newgarden Avenue, Salem, was charged with operating a vehicle intoxicated and marked lanes following a traffic stop at Newgarden Avenue and Railroad Street at 11:50 p.m. Thursday.

— Officers responded to a domestic dispute at a 400 block East Perry Street home at 12:12 a.m. Friday and found a verbal dispute in progress, although they reported nothing physical occurred. One of the individuals involved agreed to leave for the night.

— Officers responded to a 900 block East Fifth Street home at 8:15 a.m. Friday where the resident reported he ex had been contacting her regarding a money issue.

— A 300 block Sharp Avenue resident reported at 9:05 a.m. Friday someone within the past couple days had removed the temporary tags from her vehicle.

— Police responded to a 400 block East State Street business at 2:50 p.m. Friday where employees reported receiving threats from an individual in reference to an issue that had happened several days prior.

— Police responded at 12:38 a.m. Saturday to the 800 block of East Third Street for a public assist. An officer was able to help the person with her issue.

— Alexander Brant, 23, of 619 E. Perry St., was taken into custody Friday night on a warrant for failure to appear on a disorderly conduct charge. Officers had responded to various addresses in the city to attempt to locate multiple people with active warrants issued through the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. They learned that one of the people, Brant, worked at American Standartd, so officers responded there and made contact. He was processed and turned over to a sheriff’s deputy.

— Aaron Koch, 43, of Wintersville, was cited for reasonable control after an accident at 6:40 p.m. Friday on East State Street at Ellsworth Avenue. Koch’s vehicle was westbound and entered the turning lane to turn south onto Ellsworth, but instead didn’t make the turn and drove westbound through the intersection, sideswiping another westbound vehicle driven by Stacy Jarrett, 33, of West Pershing Street, who had been behind Koch previously but had remained in the westbound lane to continue straight through the intersection. Both vehicles sustained minor damage to their side mirrors, with the Jarrett vehicle also sustaining damage to the front wheel well.

— Police were called at 6:04 p.m. Friday to the 400 block of North Broadway Avenue for a person to be removed. A female resident said she no longer wanted a person at her residence because he was intoxicated and cursing her out. He didn’t live there and was in the process of leaving when police arrived. He was told not to return.

— The guardians for a male juvenile came to the police station at 5:17 p.m. Friday due to the juvenile refusing to return home. He had been violating his probation for several days and they filled out a missing juvenile report and were advised of the proper procedure for filing unruly charges. They were also told to contact the juvenile’s probation officer. Police were notified that the juvenile returned home later in the evening to the home on Franklin.

— A city officer responded at 4:04 p.m. Friday to West State Street and Jennings Avenue to assist Perry Township Police on a traffic stop, standing by while the township officer conducted a search of the vehicle. Drug contraband was recovered at the scene. The city officer remained until the township finished the investigation.

Perry Township

— A two-vehicle crash in the 500 block of the state Route 45 bypass Friday afternoon left two people in the hospital. Carl R. Sebrell, 86, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after failing to stop for eastbound traffic, striking the rear of a vehicle driven by Kara Kerns, 26, Alliance, at 12:57 p.m. Both drivers were transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for their injuries. Perry Township Fire Department assisted with the crash.

— Police were dispatched to state Route 45 north of the bypass at 2:05 a.m. Saturday for an alleged vehicle in a ditch, but didn’t find any vehicles in the ditch and checked state Route 45 north all the way to state Route 165 in Mahoning County.

Leetonia

— Officers checked the bike trail at 11:58 p.m. Thursday in reference to people acting suspicious. They were unable to find anyone on the trail.

— Steven Todd Wright, 48, Veterans Boulevard, Chester, child abuse resulting in bodily injury.

— Robert Allan Hans, 58, McDowell Street, New Cumberland, violation of PDV.

— Robert Eugene Bowersox, 51, Crown Street, New Cumberland, DUI 2nd, driving while license suspended admin.

— Steven Wayne Gallup II, 36, Joann Court, Chester, domestic battery 1st.

— Leon Brant Forrester, 24, Washington Street, Newell, forgery, manufacturing a controlled substance.

— Dakota Matthew Price, 19, Carolina Avenue, Chester, battery.

— Daniel James Smith, 28, Grandview Road, Chester, domestic battery.

— David J. Still, 38, Pyramus Road, Chester, domestic battery.
