East Liverpool utility director conducts bid opening
EAST LIVERPOOL –The meeting scheduled for Thursday for the East Liverpool Board of Public Utilities failed to happen due to no board members present.
The agenda for meeting included bid openings, reports from the water superintendent, wastewater superintendent, and the utilities director, along with old new business and finance report.
There were no reports given due to the meeting not being called and the absence of both superintendents. There was also no discussion.
Utilities Manager Tim Clark said according to the law the bids required to be open went ahead with the bid opening for meters and chemicals needed for the water and wastewater plants.
No action was taken on the bids which will be discussed and voted on when the board is able to meet with a quorum which is a minimum of two out of three board members.
Currently there are two board members and one vacancy board seat.
Sealed bids were received from Neptune Equipment, Chem Rite Inc., Usalco Chemicals, Carbon Activated Corporation, Chem Trade, JCI Jones, PBS Chemicals, Shannon Chemical Corp, and Univar.
Bid amounts were not read aloud during the openings, but bids are available for the public to review.
Clark noted after the bid openings the board had not met for a while and items need to be addressed by the board.
Several residents were present at the meeting to address the board with concerns. They were able to talk with Clark and Mayor Bobby Smith. Clark will let them know when a board meeting was scheduled so they can address the board.
Smith is working to find an appointee to the vacant board seat — he hopes to a candidate by the March 2 council meeting so Council can approve them.
The East Liverpool Board of Trustees typically meets the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Currently no meetings are scheduled.
