Ice Cream Festival Saturday
East Fairfield UMC will host its Ice Cream Festival from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 45675 state Route 558, New Waterford. The event features homemade ice cream made with farm fresh milk from Baker’s Golden Dairy as well as hot turkey sandwiches, hot dogs, sloppy joes, baked beans, pasta salad, cheesey potatoes, pie and cake. Cash sales only.
Winona Area Historical Society
The Winona Area Historical Society will present the program “Tragedy To Triumph – 100 Years of Airships in Ohio” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at the 1895 Meeting House in Winona. The program is about the Ohio crash of the USS Shenandoah in September of 1925, as well as the 100th Anniversary of the nearby Ohio Goodyear Airship Operations. Author and guest speaker Aaron Keirns will present a fascinating program about the wreck of the Shenandoah (it was National News at the time), and the Goodyear Blimp portion of the talk will detail interesting facts about the Goodyear airships. This is a free program, and refreshments will be served. Also, there will be free random prize drawing(s) for attendees.
Flying High Garden Series
Mahoning County OSU Extension invites local gardeners and community members to attend the Flying High Garden Series: Common Garden Pests on Tuesday, July 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Flying High GROW Urban Farm, located at 100 Broadway, Youngstown. This free, educational event is designed to help gardeners of all skill levels tackle one of the most persistent challenges of gardening — pests. Participants will learn the basics of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and how to apply these sustainable strategies to protect their plants while supporting the ecosystem. The evening also includes a guided tour of the GROW Urban Farm, showcasing how these practices are used in a thriving local food system. Plus, one attendee will take home a free basket of fresh veggies straight from the farm. The workshop will be held rain or shine — participants are encouraged to dress for outdoor activity and wear sturdy footwear. Seating will be available. Registration is required. CWC 2025 Garden Events
The Columbiana Women’s Club (CWC) will be “Buzzin’ about the Pollinator Garden” during the Wednesday, Aug. 6, session of the 2025 Garden Events in Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park, 338 E. Park Ave., Columbiana. Join the Green Thum Garden Club, Firestone Park Cultural & Custodial Committee and Restore Columbiana to explore garden art along with plants that support bees, butterflies, birds and beetles in “Buzzin’ about the Pollinator Garden” at Maple Grove Pavilion in historic Firestone Park, Springfield Road entrance. The noon $15 lunch option includes a meal based on the program’s theme; program-only $10 option begins at 12:30 p.m. Meet at Maple Grove Pavilion (near Park Offices). Banquet in Salem Thursday
Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the Dine In or Drive Thru 4th Thursday Banquet from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Thursday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include sloppy joes, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, cookies. Dine in will park in designated area and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. No parking in library lot. South Side reunion
HOOKSTOWN, Pa. — Those who attended South Side School in Hookstown, Pa., between the years 1957 and 1994, are invited to attend a multi-class reunion set from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Hookstown Grange Fairgrounds.
This will be the first of what organizers hope to be many more reunions, officials commented. All graduates and their spouse or significant other are invited to attend the event. The cost will be $10 per person if paid by July 31. The payment will cover the cost of the rental, water and other necessities for the day.
Organizers are looking for volunteers from each class to assist during the event. Food trucks will be on site between 3 and 8 p.m. Attendees can purchase their own food from the trucks, but water will be provided through the admission fee.
Guests are permitted to bring their own snacks, food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well. Classmates can bring their own tent or camp chair. Music will be provided during the evening.
