These American White Pelicans enjoy a leisurely swim over the weekend on Highlandtown Lake, as their nine-bird flock migrate toward the American and Canadian Rockies, after wintering in the Gulf Coast. The photographer of this image is Jason Short, who is president of the Mahoning Valley’s Audubon chapter. He grabbed this photograph to chronicle the sighting by Nathan Troyer, who resides about a half mile away on Osborne Road and reported it to local birders.
