Columbiana council passes flurry of items
COLUMBIANA — With only one week until their next meeting, council had to pass the majority of its legislation with emergency language Tuesday.
Last month, council had to move its first meeting of June back to the second Tuesday of the month due to potential quorum issue, deciding to meet an hour before Columbiana Planning Commission’s regular meeting.
Councilman Ted Souder still was unable to attend the new date.
Among the flurry of agenda items was a trio of bid awards for fuel, lime and rehabilitation projects.
City manager Lance Willard shared the good news that the Beverly Avenue and Ray Drive bid had not only come in with a lot of interest but lower than the engineer’s estimate.
After council passed a second reading adjusting the cemetery rates under old business, members moved onto tackle all the new business, which had to have emergency language attached due to the charter requiring 10 days before votes.
Council then went on to approve:
— An engineering contract with Dallis Dawson and Associate for the Columbiana and Fairfield Avenue rehab project.
— The Beverly Ray project contract, which was awarded to Yarian Brothers construction.
— The lime contract for the water department, which went to Greer Lime Company of Morgantown, WV.
— The fuel contract with Lyden Oil of Youngstown.
— Legislation approving the alternate method of LGF appropriations for 2026 and excluding the City of Salem from the approval process.
