IRS to verify Liverpool Twp. at-home businesses are licensed
LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP– During a trustees board meeting Tuesday, Mike Bahen informed that he went to check on a new business on Shady Side Lane after receiving complaints.
Bahen then cautioned that residents who are selling items out of their homes are considered to be a business and are required to have a business license.
He also noted that the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has been notified and will be coming to investigate whether these businesses have a vendor’s license. He also warned that those operating without a license could be forced to close and face tax penalties.
The township’s spring clean-up day will be from 8 a.m.-noon June 7 at the Township Administration Building. The cleanup is for township residents only. Except for large appliances, electronics, batteries and hazardous waste, cleaning materials or paints, residents can dispose of larger household items they normally wouldn’t be able to put out with their garbage.
Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati told the trustees that she is performing day-to-day activities while still working on budget figures and that she will be attending a May 8 training session at the Columbiana County’s Auditor’s Office.
Police Chief Jarod Kinemond said in his report that the number six car is back from being repaired and the repair for faulty wipers was covered under warranty. He also said the dealership said the car would need brakes and rotors but he wants a second opinion on that. The dealership gave him an estimate of approximately $700 for the work which Kinemond said he feels is a bit pricey especially after getting an estimate for about $300.
Since it is the department’s spare car, trustees approved Kinemond getting the brakes done on the car.
Road Superintendent Chris Bosworth said the township’s salt contract has been submitted to ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) for the next winter season.
Bosworth also said that the department’s 2016 truck was back from being repaired and an additive had been added to the fuel lines to prevent carbon build up again. He said he would monitor it with the additive to watch and see if it makes a difference. The 2006 truck is out for diagnostics due to the wipers, fuel gauge and two switches on the dashboard not working.
Trustees Dennis Giambroni said the only old business on the agenda was the sale of the township’s old tractor and announced the tractor had been sold.
Fire Chief Dave Ward was not present to give a report and there was nobody present for public speaking.
The trustees approved three resolutions to supplement appropriations in the amount of $2,927.75 for the Fire District Fund; $1,489.27 for the Police District Fund; and $1,712.82 for the Road and Bridge Fund for property insurance premiums.
Also approved was a motion authorizing Flati to send a separate check to make up for the difference in insurance premiums when she received the accurate amount due to staff changes.
Approval was granted for the payment of bills totaling $105,951.87.
The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meet every other Tuesday at 3 p.m., at the Township Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 13.
