University of Pittsburgh members will be at the East Palestine Library Community Room, 3:15-4:45 p.m. Those living in the 8-mile radius of the train derailment are invited to register for research on water, soil, air and biological testing. Under 18 children, parents can do a survey. Once completed, participants will receive payment up to $125.

Springfield Township Historical Society’s “Afternoon at the Museum” program, 2 p.m. The “History of New Middletown” will be presented by Walter Raub, discussing one of the founding families. Program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available after the program. The STHS Museum is located at 14188 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road (Rt. 170), Petersburg. Those attending are reminded of the current road closure of South Route 170 through the village of New Middletown. North Route 170 is open.
