HANOVERTON — There was no more kicking the can down the road as United Local held a special meeting to discuss some final decisions about their new building.

After board members opened up their discussion regarding the final changes to the SHP renderings, district superintendent Lance Hostetler informed them that they had received two board members overwhelmingly vote in favor of the dark grey option on the exterior facade metal.

Hostetler said that three colors will be used on the metal of the new K-12 building: the Dove Grey, which will be on the third level; the Musket Grey, which will be on the second level; and Dark Bronze, which will be on the bottom level.

There also was discussions about relocating the United Local tile mural, which had been donated almost 30 years ago by Peter Johnson, whose family operates Summitville Tile and the Spread Eagle Tavern in Hanoverton. The board asked member Ruthann Rinto to continue those discussions with him.

Hostetler also informed the board that Hammond Construction has asked the district to suspend all tours to the new building until May 23.

A final walkthrough is still scheduled on May 30 with details still being arranged, and they are hoping to dedicate the new building on Aug. 16.

Hostetler said that Hammond Construction discouraged them from removing the gym floor, citing liability concerns.

However, the Construction Trades program will still be taking the gym bleachers and repurposing it in some manner.

Board members did resume some discussions about possibly giving away bricks from demolished sections of building, when it occurs.

A new concession stand, which was going to occur due to the planned demo of the old one, is no longer included in plans due to the needs to make project budget cuts.

Members are still looking at options, such as using carts or perhaps the cafeteria as it is nearby.

Hostetler added that although the HVAC system couldn’t be included due to the cuts, it is still a priority for the future as the current system is aging.

Members adjourned discussions 38 minutes after they started, and board member Justin Medure was absent.
