Liverpool Township trustees set cleanup date

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP – Township trustees Tuesday scheduled the township cleanup day for June 7.

Trustees selected the date based on their availability to be present and Diamondback Disposal being able to provide a container. Only township residents will be able to bring large household items to the dump container, which will be at the administration building from 8 a.m. until noon or until the container is full, whichever comes first.

No large appliances, electronics, batteries, tires, paint or hazardous materials will be permitted to be dropped off.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati told the trustees that she had heard back from the East Liverpool Board of Public Utilities (BPU) regarding the excessive water bills for the fire department on Anderson Boulevard. She said the BPU adjusted the February water bill and gave the department a credit of $67.68. She said she is still waiting to hear on the appeal filed for the water consumption at the administration building.

Police Chief Jarod Kinemond requested no loitering signs be placed at the cemetery, and said the signs would give him more power to enforce that. He said there are instances with the homeless problem with people going to the cemetery for a place to go and that is concerning to him with the thefts that have occurred recently. Kinemond made it clear this is not intended for people visiting friends/relatives buried in the cemetery, but mainly for the people who go and sit there just to have a place to go. He also noted that since the cemetery closes at dusk, he has requested the officers on the midnight shift to drive through the cemetery to make sure no one is in there.

The trustees approved the chief’s request to hang the no loitering signs at the cemetery’s entrances.

The trustees also approved Kinemond’s requests to have the brakes and tires replaced on one squad car and the battery replaced on another.

Road Foreman Chris Bosworth requested permission to list the old yellow International tractor that the township no longer uses for sale and was granted approval to do so.

The trustees also agreed on listing the road department’s 2004 Ford dump truck for sale.

Trustees are encouraging residents to vote in favor of the county sales tax renewal. Trustee Dennis Giambroni noted that if the levy fails, a lot of areas could see some impact to their safety forces.

Giambroni said he filed a grant application with Arcwood Environmental for $750, which if granted would go to the Litter Pickup Program.

Trustee Mike Bahen said one of the township’s problem houses on Hollywood Road has been turned over to the land bank and they are doing investigation work.

Bills totaling $27,775.13 were approved for payment.

A resolution was adopted to increase the cemetery foundation pricing from $1 to $1.25 per square inch.

The East Liverpool Board of Trustees meets every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the township administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for April 29.

Starting at $2.99/week.
