Lepper Library May events
LISBON — Lepper Library in Lisbon will kick off the month of May by getting active with Barb Kliner from Stick To It Fitness. She will visit Thursday, May 1, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. to show some of the gentle moves in Tai Chi. Registration is required.
The Writers’ Group will meet on May 3 at 2 p.m. Join the group of fellow writers and gather together to discuss writing, publishing, and grammar. To receive critiques, submit five pages a week in advance to circulation@lepperlibrary.org.
This is the final program in the series this spring of Ukulele Class and Playing by Gloria Siegfried. It is on Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. This is for beginners to experienced players. First learn some new techniques and Gloria will help participants figure it out too. The second half is playing together. Good for all ages.
Thursday, May 15, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. will be a Plant Swap. Here are the simple guidelines for the plant swap: bring a plant(s) in a pot or bag, labeled with its’ name, and take a plant(s) in exchange. Keith Kaiser, Executive Director of Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, will be on hand to answer questions about the plants and general gardening questions. He will also give a short introduction into the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. There will also be a raffle for free admission tickets to the garden.
The Spring Book Sale is Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17 from 9 am to 4 p.m. There will be a wide selection of adult, teens and children’s books, audios, and movies. The prices are hardbacks $1, paperbacks 50 cents, audios and DVDs $1, all children’s books 25 cents and magazines are free with any purchase. The sale will take place at the library, 303 E. Lincoln Way. Enter the parking lot from the East Lincoln Way entrance and the sale entrance is at the garage off Vine Street. This year the proceeds from the sale are earmarked to help cover the costs to continue digitizing the Morning Journal to archive local history and make it available on library’s website.
Jaime Fox from the Alzheimer’s Association will present the Alzheimer’s Program Supporting Independence on Wednesday, May 21 at 4:30 pm. Supporting Independence focuses on helping the person living with dementia take part in daily activities, providing the right amount of support and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations. This is a great program for Alzheimer caretakers or family members and anyone caring for someone with dementia issues.
The monthly craft class is a bit later this month, it is Thursday, May 22 at either 5 or 6 p.m. Both classes are the same. This month will be making a macrame suncatcher, just dipping toes in macrame, with this beginning project. It is just in time of all the sunshine this summer, it would be good in a window or outside. All supplies will be provided.
Toddler Storytime (ages 3 and under) on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. will continue through May 13. Each week, the group continues to help develop toddlers’ skills with a themed story, songs and activities.
Preschool Storytime is at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays. It also will continue through May 13. Each Storytime program supports early literacy and socialization with age-appropriate stories, crafts, rhymes, and more.
All preschoolers are welcome to attend the Children’s Summer Reading Programs this summer with the other children on Mondays at 11 a.m.
Master-Certified automotive instructor Brian Neff from the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center will be at the library on Saturday, May 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. for a Car Care Clinic for Teens and New Drivers. This is a hands-on session, and he will guide participants through the essentials of car care. Participants will learn how to check vehicle fluids, monitor tire pressure, and what to do if an indicator light comes on.
Story Strolls are back at the Greenway Trail May 24 through June 2 and at the Lisbon Pool Exercise Trail June 2 through 9. This is an early start to the Summer Reading Program this summer. The library will have the popular Story Stroll along the Greenway Bike Trail, near the Lisbon Trailhead, and at the Lisbon Pool Exercise Trail. The story this year will be Monsters Love Color, written and illustrated by Mark Austin, to go along with the Summer Reading theme this year Color Our World! The Summer Reading Program kicks off with a “messy art project” on June 2 and continues through July 21 with a “gala opening” displaying tiny art masterpieces. It will include weekly story-based programs and activities for children, weekly hands-on cooking programs for teens, and many art themed programs for adults from music to woodworking.
