Liverpool Township Road Department looks at road repair and tree trimming

LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP — Liverpool Township Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth spoke about township roads for which he had some concerns during Tuesday’s trustees meeting.

Bosworth noted that Hudson Street off of Valley Avenue is a concern due to portions of the banks eroding away from the creek and there is only one way to get there for two township residents there that are handicap or need medical assistance. He said taking a dual wheel truck back into there makes it really tight for getting into that area. The residents are concerned about being stuck back there if there is a medical emergency.

He is in the process of getting estimates to get that fixed.

Bosworth also noted that the road department has been out patching the roads, and they were going to need to purchase a load of patch for summer. The trustees gave him the approval to purchase patch. He noted a load of patch could last the township several months. He said they are finishing up using the winter patch, which is a little stiffer. Bosworth said the estimated cost would be $2,500 to $3,000 for a load.

He also said that while patching on Armstong Lane they noticed the tree branches are touching the trucks that drive through there and the road department could cut them from out of a truck, but it’s not the safest way to do that and they wouldn’t be able to get very high up.

He asked a local tree company to check the trees out and see if they could trim up to 30 feet high and he is attempting to get other estimates. The one he has is for $3,000 which would cover cutting all the way down the one side of Armstrong Lane where the trees are. He also noted it would help let the sun in during the winter months to melt the snow and ice on the roads and that the trimming would last several years. Now would be the easiest time to do the trim with no foliage on the trees.

The trustees noted they will look into the tree trimming after he gets the estimates.

Bosworth said he had to send the 2004 truck to have two manifolds replaced that were rotted away from the salt and that the truck is no good to them if it’s not running. The estimate to repair the truck is $3,400.

Bosworth said the township’s salt contract for the year has been fulfilled with the two truckloads delivered Tuesday. He noted the township needs to decide how much they want to order for the coming year.

He noted that he has been asked a few times why they still use the salt bin at the shop if they have the new salt barn outside the administration building. Bosworth told the trustees they needed the new salt bin because the old one was letting in water and eroding the salt away. What is currently in the old salt barn is overflow that will not fit in the new one.

Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said that she had received the road department’s Road Undyed Fuel reimbursement of $392.41. She also said that she filed a dispute with the Board of Public Utilities regarding water leaks/high water bills at the administration building and fire department and she filed a stop payment for Hunter Truck’s original check.

Trustee Dennis Giambroni said that the first litter pick up day working with juveniles from the Juvenile Probation Department is scheduled for June 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are working to get a litter pick up date with adult probation.

There were no reports from the police or fire departments, no one to speak during public portion and no old or unfinished business to discuss and no resolutions to pass.

The trustees approved payment of bills totaling $75,654.10.

The Liverpool Township Board of Trustees meet every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for April 1.

Starting at $2.99/week.
