Program changes at CRC
Community Resource Center of East Liverpool is now offering FEMA boxes from our food pantry on Mondays and Wednesdays. They will no longer be available on Fridays. Limit for FEMA boxes is now one per family, per month. Senior boxes are only available on our Second Harvest Distribution Day, the third Tuesday of every month.
Playtown improvements
Playtown at Lisbon’s Cedar Street Park will be closed to the public while improvements are made to the grounds. The park is receiving new mulch.
Skywarn Spotter training set
Skywarn Spotter training will be held May 12 at the Columbiana County Career and Tech Center (CCCTC) Registration will begin at 6 p.m.with training to start at 6:30 p.m. The training is free and open to the public. The CCCTC is located at 9364 State Route 45 in Lisbon. For information call the EMA at (330) 424- 9725.
If Walls Could Talk
Burchfield Homestead Society will host If Walls Could Talk, the debut of interactive, historic phone room with display of custom M.H. Birge and Sons wallpapers, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Curator presentation about wallpapers Charles E. Burchfield designed in the 1920s for M.H. Birge and Sons and printmaking program by Wildflowers Arts & Crafts.
Burchfield Homestead Society
Burchfield Homestead Society Annual Meeting will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 6 at 867 E. Fourth St. The Society’s founders will be honored and Bo Sullivan, an architectural historian, will talk about the wallpaper designs Charles E. Burchfield’s created in the 1920s for M.H. Birge and Sons.
SPARK Storytellers’ April 5
Stage Left Center for the Arts in Lisbon will present the SPARK Storytellers’ next performance on Saturday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the historic Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way. Admission is $10 per person at the door. Plenty of free parking and the Trinity Playhouse is handicapped accessible. Eight local storytellers will present original stories around the theme of FRESH, stories of new beginnings, bold changes and life’s unexpected twists. SPARK, which stands for Storytelling to Promote Acceptance, Respect and Kindness, is open to anyone who would like to learn about developing and presenting an original story. Kandace Cleland, executive director of Stage Left Center for the Arts, and Robin Tener, veteran storyteller, provide weekly coaching sessions for participants. To date, the SPARK Storytellers have presented over 100 original stories. Storytellers for the April Program include Gloria Matthews, Chris Lydic, Robin Tener, Mike Moss, Ashley Arter, Aaron Hinchliff and Kandace Cleland. For information visit stageleftplayers.org.
EB Miller Memorial Scholarship
The Ohio Forestry Association Foundation has announced that it is accepting applications for its annual EB Miller Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is offered to Ohio high school graduates pursuing an education at an approved university, college, junior college, or technical university offering a forest resource curriculum. The initial gift to the Scholarship Fund was made in memory of E.B. Miller, a third generation sawmill man and untiring promoter of Ohio’s forestry industry. In memorializing Miller with their gift to the OFAF Scholarship Fund, the founders believe that the forest industry must continually strive to attract the most talented people to our industry. The deadline to apply is April 15. Selection of grant recipients will be made by the Scholarship Committee of the Ohio Forestry Association Foundation and winners will be announced in June. Barn Quilt2 Contest
Interest generated by the 2024 Barn Quilt Contest at the Columbiana County fairgrounds has resulted in a Barn Quilt2 Contest being added for this year’s fair. Exhibitors will be required to provide their own 24-inch square plywood quilt board (maximum of three entries per exhibitor). Entry information (name, address, and contact number) should be provided no later than July 10. Entries will be accepted in the Arts & Craft building on Saturday, July 19 from noon to 5 p.m. Winners will be announced on July 25. All entries will be on display in the building the week of this year’s fair. Cash prizes will be awarded from first place to fifth. The event is sponsored by John’s Outdoor Power Equipment of Salem.
