History event at Lepper Library

Lepper Library in Lisbon will host a Morgan’s Raid History Program by Tim Brookes from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 3. Brookes will take visitors on a journey of the only major military event coming through Ohio and ending in Columbiana County.

New interactive display

The Burchfield Homestead is opening a new interactive display in the phone room of the house at 867 E. 4th St., Salem. Hours are 1 to 4 pm. March 30. On a “vintage” phone, visitors can hear messages from the actual history of artist Charles Burchfield and his family, who lived here in the early 1900s. The artist’s wallpaper designs will be highlighted and a botanical printmaking experience will take place in the Nightwind house next door. Thanks to a grant from Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, the event is free and open to the public. Call 330-717-0092 for information.

Burchfield Homestead Society to meet

Burchfield Homestead Society invites the public to its annual meeting at 11 a.m. April 6 at the Homestead, 867 E. 4th St., Salem. BHS founders will be honored, and architectural historian Bo Sullivan will talk about the wallpapers Charles Burchfield designed in the 1920s. The house conserves the boyhood home of artist Charles Burchfield. This event is free and open to the public, but memberships will be available. For information call 330-717-0092.

Branch pickup in Columbiana

Branch pickup in Columbiana will begin the first full week of April. Some months may have a variation of the pickup week due to other projects that may arise for the street crews. Place naturally fallen branches only to the curb. Shrub and/or tree trimming cleanups should not be placed at the curb and is the responsibility of the homeowner.
