EL trash schedule
Trash will be collected from East Liverpool residences Monday, as the refuse and recycling department employees are scheduled to work on President’s Day. Residents whose trash is normally collected on Mondays are asked to have their trash set out at the curb for pick up as usual. Trash service on any of the city routes will not be affected by the holiday.
EP Park Board meeting
The East Palestine Park Board meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19 has been postponed to a later date which will be announced once scheduled.
Pasta dinner fundraiser
The Columbiana County Humane Society will host a pasta dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St., Salem, for both dine in or carry out. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children 8 years old and under. The meal includes pasta, meatballs, salad, dessert and a beverage. For more information or to call ahead, contact Annette Jermolenko at 234-564-5964. The pasta dinner is just one of the many fundraisers CCHS is using to raise money for the animals. EL Finance & Labor meeting
The East Liverpool City Council Finance and Labor Committee will meet in special session at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in council chambers. The reason for the call is to amend the budget ordinance to allow the city to pay settlement monies to Christopher Green. There may or may not be an accompanying resolution, depending on banking requirements that have not yet been determined as of this notification but will be updated when it’s possible.
Senior Dance March 22
The Salem High School Interact Club has announced its Senior Dance for local residents over 60. It will be held March 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. The dance includes dancing, a free dinner, prizes and fun trivia. People can sign up at the following locations by March 10 at Salem Community Center, St. Paul Church, Salem Public Library and the First Christian Church. The students are excited to meet and greet older members of the community. There is no dress code but participants are requested to “wear your best.”
Columbiana Library board seat
The Columbiana Public Library Board of Trustees is announcing a vacant seat on the board. The position to be filled is for an unexpired term (June 2025). The library board of trustees will review applications, hold interviews, and make a recommendation to the Columbiana Board of Education, which will make the appointment. Applicants must live in the Columbiana Village School District. Anyone interested in the volunteer position of library trustee should mail a resume and letter of interest stating the desire to serve on the board to Laura Nappi, President, Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St., Columbiana, OH 44408. Applications are being accepted through Feb. 25.
United kindergarten registration
Kindergarten registration will begin March 1 for children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 and live in the United Local School District. Those planning to open enroll their child, pick up or print off from https://www.eaglepride.net/o/ue an open enrollment form in addition to filling out the online registration packet. Open enrolling families will need to register with their home school district first, and then they may apply with United Local School District beginning on April 1.
After enrolling, individuals will not be able to schedule their child’s kindergarten screening date and time until after Aug. 1. The Kindergarten Screening Date will be announced closer to the start of the school year. Check the website for further information. All required registration documents (child’s birth certificate, child’s social security card, etc.) must be uploaded in Final Forms. All documents required to complete registration are listed under the “New Student Registration Process.” Those who do not have internet access or are unable to complete these forms from home for any reason can contact the school to set up a time to complete them at the school. Patriot Hospice training
GIRARD — Patriot Hospice is looking for a few good men and women in Columbiana County.
The agency recently announced upcoming hospice volunteer training sessions on
Columbiana County – Patriot Hospice will hold volunteer training sessions on three subsequent Tuesdays: Feb. 25, March 4 and 11, time and location yet to be determined.
Mary Seybert, who is the volunteer coordinator for Patriot Hospice, explained, “Whether you can dedicate four hours a month or four hours a week, your time and presence can bring comfort and companionship to those in need.”
She added, “Volunteers provide invaluable support to patients and caregivers, offering a listening ear, companionship, and assistance with non-medical tasks.”
Veterans are especially urged to consider serving as a hospice volunteer, as connecting with a fellow veteran can bring comfort, understanding, and camaraderie that is truly special.

ODOT work
Upcoming Ohio Department of Transportation projects in Columbiana County include:
State Route 170 highway lighting project in Calcutta: A project to install highway lighting along Calcutta’s State Route 170 business corridor. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The completion date is Sept. 30.
State Route 172 culvert replacement near Guilford Lake: Work will begin March 10 to prepare for a culvert replacement project located in the Guilford Lake region. Initial traffic impacts will be maintained with flaggers. However, the road will close for 21 days starting April 21. The detour during the closure period will be state Route 9 south to U.S. Route 30 east and reverse. The project completion date is Oct. 31.
