New Waterford council approves employee raises

NEW WATERFORD — Village Council passed a resolution last week allowing raises for salary and hourly employees.

Mayor Shane Patrone said after the meeting that the 2-3 percent increases affect the village administrator, the one street department employee, the one water department employee, the one sewer department employee, and the one employee who works in both the water and sewer departments.

Patrone noted that police wages were increased last year to $20 an hour for new employees and EMS wages were increased that year as well.

The new increase also does not affect the police chief fire chief and EMS chief wages, or wages of any elected officials, he said.

Patrone explained that the resolution passed this week was to give these particular employees a small increase due to inflation.

In other matters during the meeting, council also approved fire protection service contracts with Unity and Fairfield townships.

The contract with Unity Township will cost $80,000 and the contract with Fairfield Township will cost the village $42,000 for 2025.

The contract costs remain the same as last year, Patrone said.

Council also approved permanent appropriations for the village for 2025.

During the reorganizational meeting held before the regular council meeting, council approved reappointing Chris Kline as president of council.

Starting at $2.99/week.
