EL boil advisory issued

EAST LIVERPOOL — Due to a major water line break many residents in the City of East Liverpool who were impacted by the break are advised to boil water until further notice.

A recording on the water department’s phone line says a precautionary boil order had been issued effective Dec. 18 for any customers affected by the break on Maine Boulevard and will remain in effect until satisfactory bacteria tests are completed.

The recording also noted that the water department does not foresee any issues and that the boil order is a precautionary measure taken to minimize potential contamination. The water department will post when the boil order is lifted.

The break, according to a social media post by East Liverpool City Schools Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig, affected multiple neighborhoods and all the district’s buildings.

With the school buildings being affected, Ludwig made the decision to cancel school Wednesday.

Safety Service Director Bill Jones said he did not have a lot of details to give other than the leak was fixed through the night Tuesday into Wednesday, as the water department has not updated him on the situation.

Calls to the water department were not returned Wednesday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
