Snowflake Festival adds new traditions

EAST PALESTINE — Christmas cheer will flood the streets of East Palestine next month with the village’s annual Snowflake Festival set for Dec. 7. The all-day event, sponsored by the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, features a long list of activities which kicks off at 9 a.m.

While the festivities will include old traditions like Breakfast with Santa, caroling, a scavenger hunt and the annual Christmas parade, new traditions will be added to the celebrations.

This year, a live Christmas tree lighting will follow the parade. The tree, donated by the East Palestine Fire Department, will be placed in the municipal building parking lot. The lighting ceremony — sponsored by the Chamber and the village’s Community Improvement Corporation (EP CIC) – carries the tagline “Brighten Our Future” as the event is meant to bring the community together and serve as a microcosm for brighter days ahead.

In conjunction with the tree lighting event, East Palestine students are selling keepsake ornaments and raffle tickets to benefit the village’s downtown revitalization efforts. Proceeds collected will be managed by the EP CIC with half of the ornament and raffle ticket sales going back to the East Palestine Schools. Classes will compete for their own prizes to see who can raise the most funds.

The village is also seeking sponsors for the “Brighten Our Future” campaign with tiered donations and the sponsorship packages as “a great way to advertise your business, help our community and share your giving spirit during the holiday season.” For more information on corporate sponsorship opportunities, visit epohio.org/fundraising/corporate-sponsors.

Also new this year, Lib’s Market will be set up inside the Municipal Building during the evening festivities from 5 to 9 p.m. Coffee, Lattes, Hot Chocolate and Decaf options will be available for purchase.

In addition to the tree lighting and pop-up coffee shop and the East Palestine Drama Club will present “Hometown Christmas” at the high school auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

The Chamber will again offer the popular Snowflake Trail/Scavenger Hunt. Participants are asked to stop in at Snowflake Headquarters in the Village Municipal Building, located at 85 N. Market St. and pick up a scavenger hunt/trail map and program to visit the stops along the Snowflake Trail with prizes donated by the local businesses.

Also returning this year is Threshold Residential’s “Holiday in the Garden” to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its sensory garden at 71 W. Taggart St. Pictures with Santa and hot chocolate will be available.
