New Waterford moves ahead on property purchase
NEW WATERFORD — The village is moving ahead with securing financing to purchase property for additional storage.
The majority of council this week passed a resolution approving the hiring of an attorney to act as bond council for the village to sell bonds for up to $450,000.
The resolution was passed as an emergency and authorized the hiring of Jeffrey D. Heintz & Manchester, Newman & Bennet.
Council member Candie Dickinson was absent from the meeting with excuse.
Mayor Shane Patrone explained that the hiring of the bond council will help the village take out a loan for up to that amount in order to purchase the property located near the park and the old pottery building in the village.
The village intends to use the building to house village garage and miscellaneous village equipment so it will be out of the weather.
Council also passed a resolution authorizing the sale of the 2000 International fire tanker.
Patrone said the tanker had a cracked frame and could not be used for village purposes.
The village advertised for bids and only one bid was received, he added.
Council agreed to sell the tanker for $10,500 to Yarian Brothers Construction of New Waterford.
Also during the meeting, council agreed to contract with Buckeye Energy to handle the Electric Aggregation program.
The village has contracted with the company for these services in the past and residents will receive more details of the program in a letter in May of next year, which is when the council is expected to approve a contract for a supplier, Patrone said.
In other business, it was announced that the street department had to close a portion of Taylor Road at Crestview for a sink hole on the edge of the road.
Patrone said the sink hole was caused by a cement culvert that collapsed and only affected the edge of the road.
“We are replacing the whole culvert to prevent further issues,” he said.
A portion of the road was closed to traffic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Patrone said the village had all the necessary materials to do the repair
It was also announced during the meeting that the Christmas parade will be 4 p.m. Saturday Dec. 7th.
Parade participants are to lineup at the Abundant Life Church starting at 3 pm. Santa will greet kids at the New Waterford Methodist Church after the parade.
