Mount Union to present ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’
ALLIANCE – The Department of Performing Arts at the University of Mount Union will present “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” Nov. 14-17 in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. Local students include Julia Bricker of Salem, Andreea Dager of Alliance, Caden Nicholson of Alliance and Sally Tausch of Salem.
“The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” a musical written by Rupert Holmes based on the unfinished Charles Dickens novel of the same name, invites the audience to decide how the story ends. Set in the bustling world of a Victorian music hall, this delightful, fast-paced production combines mystery and comedy with a charmingly eccentric cast of characters.
The musical won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical; from among eleven nominations. It debuted at the New York Shakespeare Festival in August 1985. After being revised, it transferred to Broadway and ran until May 1987, followed by two national tours and a London West End production. The Roundabout Theatre Company revived the musical in 2012.
Thursday-Saturday performances of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors/veterans and can be ordered by visiting mountunion.edu/boxoffice or calling 330-821-2565. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Box Office and one hour prior to the show start.
